bone structure
I was thinking about this just yesterday! I remember being about 145 maybe even 150lbs at my lightest in my adult life and my goal is 125lbs. I need to re-measure and re-calculate my body fat percentage because honestly, I am 161lbs now and bones are already starting to surface! I've never been 125lbs since being a kid and I'm not even sure I could ever be that weight and not look sick...but who knows! I'm 5'4" so according to my BMI (Rolling Eyes) it is more than doable but I would say I am quite broad, I can see it now, my shoulders are starting to become boney but they are still broad. As are my hips. I have a ridiculous hour glass shape so I honestly don't think I will ever look tiny...my rib cage is also large so I probably have no hope of making it to a size 8 (US size 6)...We shall see! My mum always says "you'd be surprised how much fat can come off, even if your bones are showing already". Not sure how healthy that kind of mentalty is, but we shall see!

Struggling
Hi there! Just had a quick look, it says you are not sharing your weight or your journal..so no, I can't see anything. I think a few people have been having problems with sharing their weight and I don't think there's a definite fix for it at the moment. Someone else should be able to help you better with that one!

Secondly, you sound very much like myself. I'm an 'all or nothing' kind of person, I can't do things 'in moderation', if I have a piece of chocolate I will tell myself that that's the only piece I will have, but it will be a lie, I will without any doubt end up eating the entire thing and more. Not ideal when trying to lose weight!

I was the same, this time last year I was dieting and to be honest, wasn't in it 100%. I just had so many other things going on and food was my friend, you can always count on food to make you feel better. I knew I wanted (needed!) to lose weight, and I knew that I could probably do it even though I had failed so many times before but I wasn't quite ready mentally to fully commit to such a big change. I like to call this my 'limbo stage' where I was close to jumping in and really wanted to, but just kept dipping my toe in instead. If you're anything like me, you have to hit 'the point'. Everyone has a point, the point where you really don't want to be the way you are any longer and you really are ready to change your life for the better and once you fully commit, you won't look back, ever. Or at least the hope is that you don't! It's about changing your habits one small step at a time. For me, cutting out junk food, sugar and most carbs was really hard at first but I was in the zone and was ready, I just focused on not slipping up (at all!) for the first 2 weeks and my body adjusted and everything was fine again. I'm now at a point where I don't even need to look at a desserts menu in a restaurant because I know it's no good for me and I don't particularly want to be putting all of those things that are not good for me into my body when I spent all this time trying to flush everything unhealthy out of it. Of course it would taste amazing and I would love to eat it, just to taste it, but I don't need it and can go without..plus the sugar cravings that follow are just not worth it, I'd rather never eat dessert again than go through the cravings again! You just have to believe in yourself and you will do it. Where there's a will, there's a way and if you want something bad enough you will make it happen Smile

Skewed image of our bodies
Wow, it's amazing to see how there is ALWAYS a reason as to why people over eat and gain weight. I used to play a lot of football as a kid, all girls team, and was extremely muscular. My mum used to always say "you shouldn't play, you're getting thick man legs and you're only 11". So I became so self conscious about the size of my legs I refused to ever have them out in public, and I stopped playing football. My struggle with weight actually started when I was a lot younger, my mum was anorexic when I was born and my gran feared that because my mum had issues with food and her own weight, that she would allow me to starve. So my grandmother made a point of over feeding me so much as a toddler that I had to wear corrective shoes at nursery/play school because my little legs couldn't hold my own body weight. I remember being around 130lbs when I was 17 and thinking I was ridiculously fat and disgusting, little did I know that I would end up 'dieting' my way up to 202lbs by my 21st birthday. I'd do anything to be 130lbs again! I remember though the final straw was when I'd hit puberty and started developing curves before anyone else in my family and my dad took one look at me and said "you need to stop eating, you're getting to the point where it will be quicker to jump over you than to walk around you." I was 11. Funny how things people say can make such an impact in our adult lives..

Help! Cannot get into Ketosis
Hi there! I experienced the same thing when I first started my low carb diet and to be honest, I threw my Ketostix in the bin! I'm unsure as to how reliable they actually are but on mine, I was always on the second square along, two away from the neutral square and I was having less than 8% carbs (from vegetables only) at that point. Although it wasn't dark, I had all of the side effects that supposedly come with ketosis ie. headache, dizziness, feeling of hunger disappearing etc and I was dropping weight pretty quickly. The lack of carbs actually induced my TOTM (again, some argue this is a side effect of ketosis - something to do with oestrogen being released into the bloodstream) and my ketostix went really dark. But again, I have heard that TOTM can affect the result. Once TOTM was over I was on the neutral square (ie. no ketosis) and stayed neutral ever since but the weight continued to drop and I was still eating the same amount of carbs..didn't work for me!

But I have also heard that the level of ketones in your system is normally higher at the end of the day, not at the beginning and that the darkness of the square that the strip corresponds to doesn't actually matter. I was told that you can either be in or out of ketosis, there aren't certain levels of it so as long as you are not neutral, you should just be 'in ketosis'. If you drink lots of water you urine will be more diluted and thus result in a lighter shade on the ketostix and likewise, a darker shade could mean that you are dehydrated - ketones more concentrated because the urine isn't as diluted. But I'm no expert, as I mentioned, I gave up on the ketosis idea because I couldn't seem to get it right - or maybe my Ketostix were just faulty Rolling Eyes I'm intrigued to see what others come up with! There are lots of people on here who will be able to advise you Smile
