I had been athletic and thin my whole life, known as the "Skinny One" in my family. My moms side of the family is almost entirely obese as a result of bad eating habbits passed down form generation to generation. Her side is also ridden with Diabetes, stroke, heart diseas, and other diseases associated with obesity. My fathers side, although weight hasn't been an issue, everyone has died of heart disease at an insanely young age. My own father died of a massive heart attack at only 42, his older brother also died in his 40's.When I turned 16 I noticed I had started gaining weight, even though I had maintained healthy eating habbits and an active lifestyle. I was later diagnosed with Hypoythyroidism that year. I had started treatment, but wasn't noticing any improvement, my endocrineologist kept insisting I had horrible eating habbits, even hough NONE of my other symptoms had improved either. At 20, I had hit 250lbs, I had stopped exercising, started eating crappy food, and my anxiety and depression were at an all time high, so I decided to go to a family physician that my Mom liked. I found out I was on a baby dosage of Synthroid, and my thyroid level was still horribly low. I have gotten that straightened out and last year I finally started eating right and exercising again, I have lost about 40lbs. I now maintain a mostly dairy free and gluten free diet, which I'm trying to improve.
