Okay, kinda embarassing, but I google stuff alot. With the heat around here, and the holiday coming up, I'm getting nervous about baring all in bikini in public. I've worn one twice in the past week, but just in front of my cousin, and a friend.

So I googled for a while 'how fat is too fat for a bikini' Lame, I know. But I have insecurities - big time. I have a number of naturally skinny friends, one of whom made the comment the other day about there being alot of 'reverse body dysmorphia' at the waterpark. Meaning lots of fat people in swimsuits that were too revealing, in her opinion. I'm still probably gonna do it at least one of the days, but not sure which I'll go with - the tiny triangle top that is red, white & blue...or a more full-coverage set without the patriotic theme.

Anyways, I also came up on this link: (might not be suitable for work) Fat Chicks in Bikinis. The sad sad sad part is at least 3 of the girls that they are calling out as 'FAT' look to be my size or smaller. Definitely don't belong in with the rest of the 500+ pound photos. Seriously look at #16, 21, & 32. People can be such jerks. Those are not Fat Girls in Bikinis.

16, ,21 and 32 are NOT fat at all. And some of those pics aren't bikinis.... :S

Frankly, I think you should go out and enjoy your bikini. You only live once right (YOLO!)

However, I find that a bikini that is too small makes girls look bigger than they actually are. So, please, make sure it fits you properly, and have a blast!

Go patriotic! At least for that day. You are on a journey to greater body confidence, and a little skin shown might boost that for you. Also, I would note than men's imaginations are always more flattering than the reality, so modest is hottest. By that I mean bare the bikini when it is appropriate, like by the pool or lake, but otherwise, don't be the girl who is showing the most skin. Happy fourth!!!

Jess YOU ARE NO WHERE NEAR THE SIZE OF THE GIRLS IN PIX 16, 21 or 32.... I remembered you had posted some pics , so went back in your journal, as I didn't remember you like that. Be kind to yourself, you have a good figure, be proud of it and your achievements. X

Perhaps it would help if you asked a friend you are comfortable with to take some photos of you with your bikini on (just in your room so you are relaxed about it) and just try to view them like you have with the ladies in the link you posted - I think you will be pleasantly surprised to find that you too are not fat.....

If you have a cute bathing suit that you feel comfortable wearing, then wear it and enjoy yourself. If you're a little afraid that you might become self conscious, bring a T-shirt or a cover-up for when you're not in the water. The honest truth is, most people are not going to be focused on who you are and what you are wearing. Websites like the one you were checking out might make that hard to believe, but most people really are too self absorbed to be interested in judging other people. As long as there is nothing remarkably scandalous about your bathing suit, most people won't pay any attention.

Have fun and don't worry.

^^^ This.

Most of the people aren't thinking about it at all.
The rest are worried about how they're being judged.

I personally thought #16 looked absolutely adorable!!!

I agree with making sure the bathing suit fits (regardless of if it is a two-piece, one piece, etc.) and being comfortable. You are beautiful and fit and some one has an issue with you in a bikini that is their problem- not yours!!!

I find it hard to believe people are not looking and judging BECAUSE I know I CONSTANTLY AM critiquing and comparing others. You mean not everyone thinks like me? Wink lol.

I know it is easy to say, but who cares? If your too skinny you are going to be judged, no matter what you wear you will be judged. I agree the #'s you picked out are not bad at all and yes I would 'look', LOL I try not to follow what the media says I should, so not many of them bother me, but I can say I may feel uncomfortable around them. On another note, I use to avoid the water parks for the fact I did not want to be seen without a shirt on - over-weight, bald, hairy chest and back, middle-aged man. My kids did not give a crap and took me with them and I had a blast. It was hard to get over the hump, but when I stopped and looked around at the others there, I was not the focus...... So if you like it, do it!

There's always going to be haters out there. Eff that! If you feel that you're rockin that bikini and your curves are kickin, go for it! I like my ladies with a little juiciness on them. Mm hmmm. I'm a fan of the apple and hourglass figures.

In the past I've looked at people at the pool and said "I wish I had the confidence to wear that." Otherwise, I don't think too many people really care what you're wearing, they're having a good time or they could possibly be having some self esteem issues. I'd say wear what you're comfortable in and have fun. Life's too short to care what negative thoughts other people might be thinking. I'm sure you'll look great in that bikini!

I would say go for more coverage until you feel confident enough to rock that teeny bikini. Just HAVE FUN!! There will ALWAYS be people out there that are going to judge you, and those people are just so insecure themselves that they feel the need to make other people as miserable as they are. So start focusing on the things you love about yourself to try and boost your self esteem.

My therapist made me a "STOP Card" and I personally really like it. You take an index card and have a few family members and/or close friends write down positive things about you on it. So next time you start with the obsessive negative thoughts, you "stop" and read all the good things. It's supposed to help you stop believing all the lies and take a look at the truth.

If you are the size of the girls you pointed out(or smaller), flaunt it. Don't worry about what others think because they most likely won't think that you're too fat to wear a bikini.

...this is why I have yet to don a bikini (despite gentle nudges from my boyfriend on the subject). I'm afraid that this is what other people will see if I go out dressed in one.

I wore them, all 3 days in the pool. Beer helped. And my guy friend must not have thought it was too disgusting b/c he held my hand and kissed me. Next obstacle to tackle - beach full of strangers.

Good for you, Jess! I had to face this myself this summer: I basically dared myself by getting season passes to a local water park, ha! FYI, I'm somewhere in the #21 (minus the tiara Wink) and #32 (minus the killer rack, dang!) range myself, with the added 'fun' Rolling Eyes of a ridonkulous butt made even more evident by a relatively small waist. In other words, I feel ya!

For me, it came down to telling myself "suckitupsuckitupsuckitup!" (not suck it IN - suck it up and stop being such a whiny baby!) and just not making eye contact with ANYONE until the initial "WTFWTFWTFHOLYCRAPWTF" feeling went away - and it DOES.

And then when my well-developed 12-year-old started acting all self-conscious this year, I was already locked & loaded to have this discussion with her: everybody feels a little weird in their bathing suits sometimes, but that's just normal. Take a look around - see? Everyone here has some goofy stuff going on, and everyone here is perfectly awesome. And everyone here is not paying attention to anyone else! You have a strong, healthy body and don't need to give it a second thought - go have fun!

...then I mentally filed the whole talk away to give myself the same lecture the next time I started feeling weird again. Laughing
