I have 2 boys that I homeschool (one has graduated and is attending community college this year (fall 2013) so I'm down to 2 boys homeschooling) and I work part-time at a Hospice. Been married 22 years to a wonderful man who does not have a weight problem, so I'm on my own, but he's very supportive. I am making a lifestyle change, diets do NOT work for long!

Hope to find some more buddies, a lot of mine haven't been on for 6 months or more.

Whenever your buddies post something you will get a notification (up next to your weight, top of this page on the right, if you are on a computer). That way you can keep up with their journals etc and offer support/encouragement if you want. Or if you post on anything, i.e., forum, journal and someone posts after you it will send a notification. Makes it easier to keep track.

QUIT SMOKING
I quit over 16 years ago, best thing ever! I did the sugarfree gum and for the car I did Tootsie Pops (I know not diet friendly, but keeps hands busy in car, the worst time for me to not smoke). I only had one in the car so not too bad.

Oatmeal: Variations on a theme
I've never thought of the savory approach either. I usually do the sweet. Tablespoon of brown sugar, 2 tsp of cinnamon and some nuts (usually pecans)-for the crunch factor I think Smile I have never tried steel cut, only the rolled oats.

Skinny Fiber
I added a fiber supplement (Metamucil powder form) just because I noticed even with eating well, I was only getting around 10-12 grams of fiber a day. It broke my plateau (not why I started using it) from the 170's but I am now stuck in the 160's and still taking the supplement. So no quick fix for weight loss. My doctor said most people do not get enough fiber from diet alone anymore, so she encouraged me to continue with it.
