Another Update: at 2 months, 2 weeks on Atkins I've lost 21 pounds of fat, added 5 pounds of lean muscle mass, have lost over 19" and 10% body fat! I am now at 24% body fat!! :O)

I recently started a blog about my workouts and weight loss at www.ameworkout.blogspot.com. I frequently get questions about my journey (starting with my 100 pound loss 14 years ago), and about working out and nutrition so feel free to contact me.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update: I've readjusted my goals. Last month I put on 4 pounds of lean muscle mass and lost over 6% body fat. I'd like to add 7-10 more pounds of muscle and take off about 15 more pounds of fat. I'm at the smallest inches (and the strongest) I've ever been. I'll get to that figure competition yet.

Looking for buddies who aren't afraid to lift heavy. Most of my friends have been men my whole life. Even when I was in the Army I was one of the only girls around. But I hear there are some strong women out there...

------------------------------------------------------------------------

I did Clean Eating for years - even lost over 100 pounds 12 years ago on it, but my cravings had gotten out of control. Plus, even at a size 6, I still felt like I was carrying a little too much fat, especially in my arms.

Because I was starting my day with Autumn Wheat cereal and a Coca-Cola and ending it around 11pm with an ice cream sandwich or two, I decided Clean Eating wasn't working for me and I needed to make some drastic changes to break my addictions to sugar and caffeine. I gained almost 30 pounds during Grad School, so that's what I came to take off.

Once I found out how many veggies you can have on Atkins, I totally adopted it. And I am Loving it!

April 28, 2011 I'll be 34.

THREE WEEKS AND ONLY DOWN 1.6 LBS?????
Actually with cheese, some people do go wrong. Some people can't handle it every day.

But the real problem is you are already around or under 150 pounds, so you're not going to lose fast. That's just the way it is. You probably aren't eating enough either. Up your calories by 100-200 more per day, or 300-400 more if you are also exercising. You should also move on to OWL. Why are you staying in Induction when you are already so close to your goal weight? People who do that generally gain the weight back later and come back for Round 2. Or 3. Or 7.

It's hard to give advice when we don't know your height, age, or goals. Also, tracking just your weight doesn't mean much. At 150 pounds (at 5 feet 5.5 inches) I'm a size 6. Some people are a 12/14 at that height/weight. The number on the scale doesn't mean much of anything to me.

HELP!!!!!
lax the reason there are so many Atkins people replying is because it's posted under ATKINS, so why are you telling people to do something else? Less than 12% body fat isn't healthy, even if you are a guy training for a body building competition, and it certainly isn't maintainable. Of course, with no picture, I don't really believe that's true, anyway, but to get that low you would have to follow something just like Atkins - that's what all competitors do.

439kcal!?! Really?
I've never paid attention to the BMR. I used to keep my calories at 1500 (NEVER lower) and lost over 100 pounds. This time I only had about 20-25 pounds to lose (I thought it was 30-35, but nope). I upped my calories to 1700-2000 a day because of workouts, and lost even more fat and inches. I don't "eat" my exercise calories, I just keep about the same every day, and if I'm hungry one day from working or exercising, I just eat a little more. Some weeks I planned on 1700, some 2000, then back down to 1800 or so for a week, then back up. This is how you stagger your intake - not by changing the number drastically every other day.

Getting less calories may give you weight loss in the short term (sometimes, but not always), but it wrecks your metabolism and eventually your body will hang on to everything. NOT recommended.

Protein shakes...to drink or not to drink?
Actually, you just need to eat more in general. 800-900 calories a day is starving. You should feel tired. EAT!

Calorie Question
1200 calories isn't even enough for people in Onederland. I'm at 135 now and can eat 2000 calories a day. It could definitely be your metabolism slowing if you are not hungry. If you eat more, smaller meals a day your body will want them. And you will burn more fat. Definitely start with 1700 as was suggested and go from there.

The protein shake is a good idea. I often have one when I get off work at night to get in some extra calories. Also try adding healthy fats like olive oil and even butter to your foods. A handful of nuts is definitely quick and easy, and you'll probably barely notice you even ate them.

A late-night trick is to have herbal tea with 1-2 tablespoons of coconut oil. That adds a couple hundred calories. In the morning I have coffee with 3 servings of heavy whipping cream (that's 150 calories just for the cream). I recently bumped it up to 4 servings because I've been having trouble getting enough calories since I started this new job.
