Had such a nice weekend! Hope you did too!!! Starting off this week with a renewed focus - watching my calories as much as watching my carbs. OH, WHY?

Well, kingkeld has got me curious. And while I am apparently starting to lose a little on a somewhat consistent basis (by changing to more lean meats and increasing my veggie intake) (plus adding probiotics) - I am curious about this ZIG ZAG approach to calories.

My body becomes extremely adaptive rather easily.

And when you are eating low carb, you tend to eat the same 20-30 foods repeatedly. Which leads you to hover around the same caloric intake on a regular basis.

So - having done all the math for my height age etc...

I am going to try the following and see what fly's!

Day 1 - 1500
Day 2 - 1250
Day 3 - 1750
Day 4 - 1500
Day 5 - 1300
Day 6 - 1400
Day 7 - 2500

He seems to have been doing this all along - and has lost over 140 lbs. If Days 1-6 are at 10% Carbs, then Day 7 can be at 20-40% Carbs no problem. It is a variation of a Cheat Meal or Cheat Day, Spike Something or other...etc... but rather controlled thru tracking!!! But built into those numbers is the expectation of working out 3 days a week, and a reduced caloric intake for 1 lb a week loss.

I KNOW...I am already losing. So to go and mess this up would be stupid. However, the original research I did relied on a 'cheat meal' one day a week.. which I have not really been doing, as I was too afraid to screw things up.

But I don't want to live in Induction land or the lowest OWL territory forever... so I am willing to experiment to see if I can still continue to lose following what I know to do regarding WHAT I eat... and use this caloric tool to see if I can open up some of my intake options thru this juggling process.

As I approach maintenance again...you simply begin to increase the caloric intake per day, along w/ the 'cheat meal' day... until you level off.

We will see...

And HOW ARE YOU DOING!!!!!!!!!!! Hope you are all well! Much Love.

I am curious too about the zig zag approach. When I look at my calorie intake, I seem to be doing this in abridged form anyway - but not consciously. I may try to CONSCIOUSLY do it now. I will be interested to see how you get on. I also try to "mess up" my exercise routine (apart from aqua fit which is my constant) many cause I get bored with the same exercise. I am sure this helps too.

Thanks Issy! and Bren!! Skinny - just got home from the gym. And purposely 'mixed it up'. Realized that I can do one thing...several times in a week... then switch the routine entirely to something else for the next week... and so on. Keeps me on my toes, and keeps my body on it's toes! ;) Last week I did 4 days of hill climbing on the treadmill. This week, I did 10 min warm up on eliptical, and then 30 min's of hand/machine weights. Biceps, triceps, shoulders, and thighs. Will shoot for 4 times this week. And next week will pick a new routine... probably back on the treadmill. But not sure yet.

I have been watching calories and carbs. It is a little trickier; sometimes I think "what can I eat", and if I get tired and have not prepared, I get into trouble! But, it certainly helped me out of my plateau. I'm shooting for 1200-1300 per day. Have not done a cheat day; afraid of it! You are farther along than I am - I'll be watching to see how it goes!

Nice to see you in such a good mood this morning! Please do let us know the results of your experiment.

I already kind of use that zig zag method w/o trying. It's usually on the weekends cause my sleep pattern gets all screwy which snowballs to me eating at different times of the day, or skipping lunches. However I don't exercise on my high cal/carb days unless you count housework.

I'll be interested to see how your experiment goes. I think the carbs/calories issue is something that becomes more important to those of us on longer journeys, but is an issue that is almost absent in any Atkins materials. Good luck!!

Good luck...hope it works for you! I have some VLC days, but for the most part stay pretty consistent. Will be interesting to see how this works for you. Have a great day!

Great thinking. Your break down and explanation makes it sound so easy. Wish that was so for me. I am working on it. Way to change things up for the better.

I am very happy for you! I too have been considering kingkeld's plan. Not that brave just yet. I have to work harder on a routine with my exercise first before I will feel comfortable experimenting. Still afraid of the 'Carb Monster'. You are doing wonderful! Congrats!!! :)
