A huge suggestion today, not many other comments.

Read what's in the new info in the news about hot dogs and other processed meats. Then choose if you really want to continue eating them. Also the supposed to be vegetarian hot dogs etc. I don't eat hot dogs and happy that I do not, interesting that many include human dna. The reports didn't include rodents mmmm.

Local news this am and all over national during the day as well as cancer findings re: processed meats such as ham and bacon. It's on both CNN and Fox online probably others. FDA allows a certain % of rodent and insects in them. It's been that way for years and years. In an old life as a restaurant owner I used to work with the men from a large national meat processing plant and had many meetings with them # the plant to set up meetings and parties that we catered or hosted in our banquet room. I first hand have seen them made, with escorted personal tours of the plant. I will not eat them.

I quit eating them years ago because most of them have gluten fillers. When I was a kid, hot dogs and processed meats were MUCH nastier, if you can believe that.

There have been articles about studies for a few years about the nitrates and growth hormones in processed meats causing cancer. Now you can get some processed meats without the added nitrates but it costs a lot more. Hot dogs are one of the leading killers of children because they are a choking hazard. This study tries to make a stronger point about the issue. Love bacon and italian sausage in moderation.

I don't even want to think about the human DNA, rodent, bugs, etc!!

OK, hot dogs = cannibalism . . . good thing I hardly ever eat them!! Reminds of a line from Grisham's 'The Rainmaker' (movie version) . . . the sweet little old lady has prepared sandwiches for her young attorney/tenant and his girlfriend and she says (with sincere enthusiasm and pride), "It's that good processed meat!!" ;)

When I was a kid my granny bred miniature daschunds (sausage dogs) so I could never bring myself to eat a hot dog - sounds as if my crazy aversion had some grounds to it after all! These days ,if I don't know the source of something I don't want to eat it - simple as that. Still think your post is "eewww!!" and a good reminder to all that there's no need to poison oneself to nourish one's self.

I used to LOVE hot dogs, especially as a quick meal with chips.. but then someone told me what was in them and I never ate them again. Its one of those things, along with cereal that I refused to feed my children. Even more so now that Im trying to eat cleaner.. I tried to cut out nitrates too, like in lunch meat.. Its sounds crazy to those who dont know, but once you cut out crap like hot dogs, you start to feel better. GREAT POST.

This a good discussion topic and I respect your decision not too; however, I eat em. Actually, whatever I want I figure I'll die from one thing or another. ;) If you look at everything that we eat you wouldn't want to eat it at all. If you have pet's and I know a lot of us do, you eat their hair in your food. Heck, I eat my hair in my food. I think the media plays on our fear's. Also, it's only 5% risk that red or processed food will or may cause colon cancer. Everything in moderation. Just saying.

I suppose that list includes Spam (the kind you eat). How can something that tastes so good be so bad for you? :) I used to make my own sliced marinated chicken breast and keep it handy, going to start doing it again.

Just a side note - anything made with flour has insect parts and eggs in it. No way to avoid it...there's an "acceptable" number, parts per million I guess, that is allowed. Best not to think of it I suppose. :)

I don't eat hot dogs, period. See, I was raised in Europe, and ate the real deal of what is called "hot dog" here actually should be. When I first came to the US 16+ years ago a single bite of hot dog kept me away from them for ever. Those things are disgusting.
