sierra1167's Journal, 24 April 2015

I have cut my carbs and my calories with little results. It is even more frustrating when my digital scale can't make up its mind on my weight. I first stepped on this morning and it said 200.8. I was so excited! But knowing my scale is fickle I usually weigh myself a few times and take the weight that shows up the most. Subsequent weights were: 203,199.5,and 203. I am not giving up but am just really frustrated.

Measure and weigh your food so you know exactly what you are eating. It will work.

increase protein? And get a better scale. I bet you are doing better than you think!

Thank you! I do weigh and measure pretty consistently. I think I am doing good on the protein because I eat some at almost every meal. I am wondering if I am cutting too low on carbs? There are some days that I am not very close to the 20-25.

Great idea to record water...just enter WATER...then enter the oz. you drank. Best of Luck!

YES you can record your water - I do it every day. Just write "water" in the food search and you can ester the number of ounces you drink

I found out the hard way that drinking water is key to weight loss. I may not like it, but I drink quite a bit (10 bottles / 169oz. per day) through the week but still not enough on the weekends (4 bottles / 67oz. per day).

Hang in there, Sierra! My scales do the same thing and I have deducted that they go crazy right before a drop. Probably need new scales but then my early morning entertainment would stop:) I, too, tried cutting way back on carbs and discovered that it was at the expense of veggies. Veggies are so low in calories and nutritionally good for us and yet, when I cut carbs they seem to be first to go! I started losing again when I made sure I was eating more veggies! They require lots of water as well. I know the frustrating feeling that you are feeling. I just keep thinking if I quit my only recourse will be to gain weight. As slow as it is, it is better to lose than gain. You've lost 17# and while you are to be congratulated..

You may need to replace the scales battery. It shouldn't give so many readings. Place an object you know the weight of (like a couple of hand weights) to gauge it's accuracy.

Good on you for not giving up! There is a reason several people on this site refer to the scale as the "idiot box"! I would definitely try new batteries first, perhaps a new scale if it is old, and keep doing what you're doing. You'll get there.

Thank you all for the encouragement and advice. A friend of mine also suggested the battery may need changing. I have had it for a couple of years and don't think I have ever changed the battery. I will grab one this weekend and hope I get more consistency.
