Captain's Log, Supplemental: (Any old Star Trek fans out there?) Anyway, NorthernMuscian, MrsMole, and I have discussed over the past several weeks the possibility that my radical water weight spikes may be coinciding with a propensity for high blood sugar (Type 2 diabetes). I was diagnosed with that in 2010 or 2011 and it was always in the high 100s and spiking over 200 when I ate a lot of carbs). After starting my weight loss, I have been in the sub-100 range since October 2012. But after our discussions, I determined that the next time I indulged in carbs and saw a spike, I would track the blood sugar closely. I'm happy to report that for this time at least, it's not correlating. I ate 2500 calories, 338 grams of carbs, and 4157 grams of sodium on Saturday. I went from 199 to 206 overnight. I did a blood sugar reading Sunday morning and got 97. I fasted for the day, ate a late dinner (1500 calories for the day), measured again and got 79 (!), although I was still 205 lbs. This morning, I woke at 205 lbs. and measured 87. I finished fasting, did a workout and got a 202 lbs. and 88 blood sugar reading. So far, it does not seem to be the issue.

That is totally AWESOME! Now, I have to tell you my findings as I am in the boat you were in before you lost your weight. Exercise will bring down the blood sugar more than anything will. I admit, carbs play havoc ... but when you are a newbie diabetic (or pre-diabetic) exercise is key to maintaining great blood sugar readings as well as watching the sugar intake. I am so proud of you, Bill! Big Hugs!

PS. I am a Trekkie but I did think you meant something else when you started out with the Captain's Log. Well, I can't help it. I just came off the D-Burn and that seems to be all I did ... um, you know. Lots of potty breaks.

That is great news to see the sugar numbers down - I bet it is a sodium thing...and muscles like to hold onto water sometimes as they recover from exercise no matter how much we seem to sweat.

Easier said then done Bill. Though on this trip for almost 3 years, I'm still learning. HCB mentioned water weight with exercise. I always wondered why I weighed more the day after a strenuous workout. Took a while to figure it out.

First of all, the Captain's Log thing cracked me up because I have said more than once that you resemble Patrick Stewart (or perhaps he resembles you??), so that was great. Next, I'm thrilled to hear that your blood sugar is so well under control. Clearly, those huge weight jumps are just the result of carbs carrying water with them as they are processed and stored in the muscles. That's why your HIITs are always so successful. It's like wringing out a dishrag! You're doing so well and continue to be an inspiration to everyone here. Thanks for the update, Captain!
