HCB's Journal, 18 August 2012

I truly must be crazy because I just bought another JM DVD called "KickBox FastFix" which again is three intensive 25 minute segments. (It is set-up like "30 Day Shred" with the intensity levels.)

I currently modify Level 1 of "The Shred" so it is less high impact in the cardio segments. It still is pretty hard! I also have regularly done a 30 minute kickboxing DVD for about six weeks now...BUT, of course, JM takes everything to another level!

The first segment of "KickBox FastFix" is pretty darn challenging for me! The moves are kickboxing moves I recognize but she rapid fires them and puts handweights and strength work within the boxing moves!

Geez...gimme a break! I am old. I am fat. I am working on it.

AND, I will continue with her DVDs anyway! I adjusted to the "Fronts and Backs" DVD routine and now can do 90% of it well. SO, I will eventually do better at Level 1 of both "The Shred" and "KickBox FastFix." And lucky me, as I progress over the long-term, I still have Levels 2 and 3...please someone save me from my self! I truly must be crazy!

Today I am grateful for:

- My FS Buddies who support and encourage me to continue
- "Butt-kicking" myself to a smaller size today
- My DH - who is my greatest "cheerleader"
- My Bengal cat companions named Bodhi and Ravi
- My work - which has meaning and worth to other human beings
- My connection to the Mother Earth and all its splendor
- My physical health

Maybe you could find some tech wizard who could slow them down for you! LOL. But you will get it - look at how far you have come in the last few months.

Lol, you got a bad case of it, for sure! Are there support groups for such issues?

I still haven't bought any of those DVDs, but I keep thinking about it, so I can feel your pain LOL.

You are so dedicated! You have really found your fitness challenge that works for you with the JM DVD's. I feel the same way about running. Do you do it when no one is in the house? Or does your husband watch you? Do the cats look at you funny when you're moving around?

My husband watched once to comment on my form at my request, and the cats sit on the couch and laugh at me! I can see it in their eyes! We have a TV room downstairs and my husband mostly watches TV in the main living room upstairs. I have mats, weights, stretch bands, the exercise ball and the DVD player all set-up downstairs so I am on my own when I work out!

It took me a second to figure out who JM was, lol. Thats good y'all have spaces setup for that. I would have that problem too. My wife does some yoga and meditation DVD's, but no exercise anymore. She use to love Gilad.

LOL posterchild! JM is Jillian Michaels, the trainer from The Biggest Loser TV show from a couple years ago. She has many many DVDs and books you can easily view on Amazon. I find the workouts challenging yet effective even if I do them "my way" - basiclaly it is circuit training so you burn a bunch of calories with the cardio segments while building muscle with the core strength work.

How do you modify the 30 day shred? I stopped doing it because I popped me knee so bad it swelled up. I would do it again if I modified it. Any suggestions?

I am impressed that you do not grow weary of completing the same exercise DVD day after day. Is that the case? maybe I didn't follow. I must have novelty and variety. Otherwise I grow too bored too quickly. I understand that you are jesting. But I do want to let you know that I do not see you as "old" or "fat" at all - Babydoll! I see you as spunky, motivated, compassionate, well-informed, conscientious, and forgiving. I got a "kick" out of witnessing yet another kickboxing DVD on your part. Must tell you I have been a bit miffed in the past after purchasing next edition Denise Austin exercise DVD's because I thought that these next editions would introduce new moves. Instead the next editions contained simple re-mixes of the same old moves in a varied sequence. I was so disappointed. I have missed you during these past extremely busy days and I hope to establish a more effective interactive pace this wek. Much Fat Secret Love!

All I can say is WOW! and WTG! .. HCB! You are so motivated and driven. I have tried a couple DVD's and I couldn't keep up. You are doing great! Hugs!!!

Just keep going at it, I would bet money that after putting it in your rotation for a month, you will be able to do all the moves. Everybody has to learn somehow, we can't just jump up and be great. BTW, I never read up on JM, why did she leave BL?

Variety is the spice of life and now you have lots of "spice" in your workout options! It's good to switch things up and keep your muscles guessing about what's coming next. It's great that you have stuck with the DVD's long enough that you are seeing your progress. You're not crazy at all! Keep up the great work :)

@ W4 - I have three or four different DVDs now that I rotate around so if I exercise five or six days a week I don't get too much repetition. @SKWhite - I substitue alternationg side leg lifts for jumping jacks while doing the same arm moves, I do some of her "butt kicks" then switch to just to the low impact version - the goal is to keep moving fast enough and intensely enough to just keep that heart rate pumping!I do not like high impact moves so if they jump I do a low impact version and it still keeps my heart rate going and the sweat pouring! @ Soulnoid - Apparently there was some drama about people being jealous of her success, and a participant that she refused to train because he insulted her in some way! JM just adopted a baby from Haiti and lives with her female partner who also just gave birth to a boy. JM has been open about her bisexuality - wow, is this TMI? I read it on the internet so it must be true LOL LOL

Good to know that you have a nice mix of DVD's to mix things up. Interesting fact that Jillian has come out. Got to respect that fact. I love the music in her DVD's.
