Vs. a vs. olive oil: supposedly extra virgin olive is healthier for you. However, there's a lot of inferior pressings passed off as extra virgin. I have read your best chance of getting real extra virgin as opposed to counterfeit is to get brands from California. (I wasn't aware there were extra virgins in California. Sorry, couldn't resist that joke.)

I've actually heard the same, I have a friend who is Italian and they only buy CERTAIN olive oil brands and when they do it's a big jug of it...

depending on what you are frying... If it is ethnic, coconut oil with flavor for the flavor, non flavored is supposedly healthy, olive oil, canola is fine, it is no cholesterol. They all have the same calories. I personally can't stand the taste of olive oil, but that is just me.

Peanut oil is great for high temp and olive oil for most things. For many things you don't need evoo but just a plain olive oil, it's cheaper and less flavor. Lots of people like coconut oil, personally I don't like it at all, everything tastes slimy to me.

Sorry I forgot grape seed oil. It's also good for any temp. And adds no taste.

lots of great information everyone! i decided i should try avocado oil which i was told they sell at costco, hopefully for a good price, and maybe grapeseed oil; i have coconut but it has too much flavor for my kids foods and it's also very pricey!!!

I like the slightly sweet taste of coconut oil for lots of things but peanut and walnut oils also have a high scorch level. J
