JDbowler's Journal, 27 April 2018

Hello to all of you. Hope you are doing well. Me, I've been better. So, my most favorite food in the world is bread. I love the smell, flavor, feel...... Doesn't matter. I love it all. So, when I go to my doctor and he says that I have moved from borderline pre-diabetic to right in the mid rage for pre-diabetic, it wasn't pleasant. Neither was him telling me that I need to restrict my carb intake. Great. Here goes the neighborhood. My meals center around bread, pasta, rice, potatoes..... So, starting today, it's as few carbs as possible. I do not want to get into the diabetic range. So, I will take his advice, and do what I knew for a while I needed to do, and that is cut out the carbs. It will have to become a special treat to enjoy bread/pasta/desert as opposed to just watch the calories. This is going to be really hard for me, but I am hoping to make this work. It's a new lifestyle, no/low carb. I'm not going to follow any specific diet (Adkins/South Beach), except for the fact that I am going to limit my carb intake. I will monitor that, and try to keep up with healthy things to eat. Here is for another journey. Let's hope I don't mess this one up. Lots of things at stake now. Have a great day and a great weekend.

Go down on the carbs slowly - then when you get to 20-30grams a day, stay away from the starches an the cravings will go away. Have you looked into ketogenic program? Check it out.

You'll get a ton of support here, most find 20 grams of carbs per day helps lower your blood sugar. I was a diabetic and cut them down to under 20 and it worked for me! Good luck and good health!

You don't have to totally deny yourself breads or pasta or good carbs. Watch your caloric intake and try to skew your diet toward perhaps 80% protein and 20% carb. I am a diabetic and this helps me to lower my need for a lot of insulin and this kind of eating will keep you from becoming insulin resistant. Our bodies need a certain number of carbs to maintain good balanced health. I stick to a 1300 calorie diet with the same ratio of protein to carb and am losing weight slowly but surely and my blood sugars are becoming more stable. Speaking with a diabetic educator and a dietitian where the best choices I've ever made. I wish you the best of luck in leveling out your sugars and you'll find out that as you lose weight your A1C's are going to improve.

Dude? Are we brothers? My last meal will be a huge plate of pasta with great sauce, a Boston bakery baguette, roasted potatoes, onions and red peppers, and excellent rice pilaf! ...I gotta go, now I'm hungry!

I am a new diabetic, I went right to it as my pancreas is a quitter. I too love the same food items you enjoy. The nice part is that I can still have all of it. I have to portion, and count carbs for every meal and balance it all out. I met with a nutritionist that helped me get a plan for me based on my level of activity, medications and tastes. I will offer you that there is hope and a great way of life ahead. It is awesome that you are taking action to get your health in order. I wish you all the best on your journey.

spaghetti squash instead of pasta, cauliflower pizza crust at Trader Joe's and Ezekiel Bread is a great choice if you must have bread because it's sprouted grains

I brought my blood sugar back within normal range in five weeks by having 20g net carb per day and following a high fat/ moderate protein diet. Sounds mad that I eat fat to lose fat but it's working lol. The cravings go very quickly. You can do it :)

Log it before you eat it especially the carby treats like bread, pasta and my favorite yodels....I can’t tell you how many times I have passed on something because I realized it would murder my carbs for the day. When you see the grams jump it’s a reality check.
