Frustration
I find that I sometimes plateau for 2 or 3 weeks and then like magic I'll drop a bunch all at once. I can't explain it, I just know it happens.

Keep doing what your doing and it will be fine. If after a couple weeks you still haven't dropped, you may want to mix up your intake a bit. If you do low cal, try moving to low fat. If you do low carb, try moving to low cal, etc... I find that sometimes I just need to let my body have the particular food I've been denying it and then my fat cells relax and let go! Smile

Best of luck! Don't let this momentary delay frustrate you. Remember to breathe deeply!

Diet secrets
Stress is a diet killer. The more stressed I am, the more I mindlessly stuff food in my mouth. When I can, I get out of the office and go for a quick walk to clear my head. But, that's not always possible.

One trick I have been able to do successfully is to keep a lot of sugar free gum around. I get every flavor under the rainbow (there's even some that tastes like apple pie)and then instead of reaching for the bag of pretzels, I grab the gum.

I just find it's easier to stay on the diet wagon, than to fall off. With every slip seems to be harder to climb back on again. And believe me I have fallen off more times than I can remember.

explaining what you eat!
I have been lacto-ovo vegetarian most of my life. I tried going back to eating meat for awhile, and found that I just didn't feel right. I learned to cook meat for my husband, and in turn he has learned to make a few fantastic vegetarian dishes. As for our son, we offer him meat, but don't expect him to eat it all the time. When he is older and can read his own body better, I'll let him decide.

But back to your question... If someone asks, I simply tell them I feel better when I don't eat meat. I don't get into a socio-political debate about it, my response is honest and simple.

When you're out and about, assume what you picked up to eat has more fat and calories than you think
Then when you get home and really figure it out, you will either be happily surprised that you didn't over indulge. Or you'll be glad you stopped when you did!

I went to the fair, and HAD to have a fried artichoke heart sandwich. I didn't want to stop and use my phone to look up every ingredient, so I just threw in a fried chicken sandwich with sauce figuring it would be close. Then I felt guilty about the 600 calorie lunch, skipped the beer stand, drank lots of water, and avoided the curly fries all together, but did give in on a free scoop of ice-cream Wink .

When I got home and actually dialed in all the ingredients, the fat and calories were WAY less than I had estimated and I was able to stay within my RDI for the day. The fat was still a little high, but hey, I only go to the fair once or twice a year! Cool
