What was the 'lightbulb moment' that made you realize you needed to lose weight?
the light bulbs keeps going off- my health, my clothes, shopping, a brat child telling me i was to fat to play soccer, my health, family pictures but the current lightbulb is that my mom passed away last year. her dying wish was that I get healthy. it's fraught with emotional landminds, like why didn't she love me as i was/ am but generally, i know that i want to live past her age, i want to see grandkids and sit on the porch with my husband when we are 80, and i don't see that future unless i make some serious changes. My life can get so out of balance, i am now just trying to go slow, day by day, and deal with the compulsion food habits.

Not technically a diet question - husband troubles
your situation calls to mind the purpose of marriage- was it really just to raise kids? I have only been married 12 years but i think about this stuff a lot. I was pregnant when i met my husband and regret that we were never a couple before we were a family. in my low self esteem periods I think he only married me to have a family ( being a dad is the most precious thing to him) the flip side of that is that i am looking forward to being a couple ( in 10 years when the baby goes away) I envy my sister in law who is a couple, no kids and she has the freedom to do couple things, she envies me the kids. I quess my point is that everyone goes through life's stages. thinking philospicaly, in the end, you will only have yourself and your moral compass to answer to, take care of yourself.

The fat acceptance movement
yes, i think so- the logic there is to find balance, i was unhealthy- both in starving and binging, eating to much, using food as a weapon and shield- neither overwhieght or to skinny is healthy. my goal is balance.

IBS ... do you have it?
i finally told my doc about the diarrhea. An acquaintance had colon cancer and i was sure that i had all the symptoms but doc said it's just IBS. JUST. So, Now that it has a name, i am trying to be healthy. I read through all the posts and can incorporate some good things- staying away from trigger foods like fried anything, more fiber- Metamucil is a good thing. stress- working out helps me blow off steam from my more than average stress job. I have a friend who also has IBS and we workout together.
