I turned 39 in April this year. I've battled with my weight all my life and I've tried every diet out there. I've had a few successes - two periods in particular where I managed to get down to a size 10/12 and stay there for over a year - but I've never mastered keeping the weight off for good. I don't want to be a fat 40; I want to be a fit 40! I see my friends and family starting to suffer the consequences of obesity and overweight, including high blood pressure, diabetes, needing a breathing machine to sleep, joint pain, etc. I've been pretty fortunate so far that I haven't had these problems, but I don't want to start now. I also want to go into a clothing store and not shop in the "fat lady" section! This is my "last stand" - gotta get this weight off for good and do it the right way.

101 Reasons to Lose Weight

Also traveling. I know it seems strange but if you think about it if you lose a bit of weight that means having clothes that are smaller and will take up less room in your suitcase. You don't have to take bulky clothes to hide behind.

Plus you'll have the energy and stamina to see and do all the things you want when you're traveling. Smile

About travelling - not just the smaller clothes - but also the comfier fit in the airplane seat!! I can't wait until I have more room in those teeny tiny seats!

afraid of gaining weight with birth control pills
13 years and 9 months ago I was concerned with weight gain on BCP - I had been trying to lose weight and was on a plateau, and convinced myself it was because of BCP. I went off them. Our daughter turns 13 on Thursday. Razz

Looking for exercise ideas
If you haven't done much exercise at all so far, walking is a great way to get into it! Get a good pair of walking shoes, strap on your iPod, and hit the road. Smile

winning.
Thank you for posting this! It's very inspiring - I'm going to print it out & post on my bathroom mirror.

What motivates me? Right now it's feeling better and stronger. Since I've started exercising I'm not relying on Tylenol PM to go to sleep (although I do still use it every now and then for workout-induced aches!) It motivates me to see the calories I burn in every workout, and feel how much stronger I am getting. It's great to not go to the chiropractor 3 days a week for neck and back pain - who knew that just moving more would have such a huge, positive impact? Two months ago I was 39 and felt like 50. Now I'm 39 and feel like - well, maybe 40. So I'm heading in the right direction!
