Sherillynn's Journal, 05 March 2017

Yesterday I took another truckload of things to be donated. I uncluttered 12 bags. Only one to the trash and the rest to the thrift shop. Today I will work on the next room. It is liberating but embarrassing. How embarrassing that I have so much stuff that I won't even miss the almost 40 bags I've already sorted through. We live in a disposable world where I have fallen into that trap of NEEDING MORE MORE MORE. Some of that stuff has literally moved across the country with me for the past 40+ years. I finally let go of much of it.

I also got rid of about 6 or 8 bags of size 22 clothing that was too big and since I don't want to have any incentive to get that large again, I got rid of the clothing that could trap me into thinking it is OK. It was exhilarating to pack it up and empowering to get it gone. I also found several pairs of 18 jeans and pants and just a few in 16 so I did save them. 18 is coming soon as my size 20s are getting baggy but 18 isn't quite comfortable so I will go through this exercise at least one more time.

I wish I could get my husband to help but he doesn't part with anything. EVER. It is frustrating to live like this with clutter all over but I keep my areas clean and clutter free. The rest isn't my problem.

Another pound down today. For that I am thankful. It has been too windy and bitter cold to walk outside. My poor puppy misses the activity and so do I. This week should be better and with the better weather, my attitude will hopefully improve.

Enjoy the last day of the weekend. Blessings to all.

They say that getting rid of the clutter will help your weight loss but I bet sticking to your plan deserves the most credit. I've been getting rid of stuff too, but have found that I sometimes get depressed thinking about the money I wasted on this stuff. Then I read Marie Kondo's book and she says you just thank the item for what it brought to your life and let it go. And that sometimes we buy things for the feeling it gave us, even if just for the moment, and though we never even use them they served a purpose. I stopped feeling so guilty after that and though I haven't finished clearing the excess the process has made me more careful with my purchases and I'm no longer lured in by sales. Congrats on your progress!

over the years ive noticed that when i go to buy something alot of times when i get ready to buy it..i have a talk with myslf and decide if its something i really need..or i just think i need it...alot of times its just..that i think i need it...if after 2 or 3 weeks im still thinking about it..then i know its something that i need in life..

I've been doing the same for the last few weeks. After not being able to do ANYTHING for almost 2 years, I am slowly getting rid of the crud that got collected and a whole lot more! I think this Lenten challenge for the Salvation Army is a great idea! Have a great Sunday!

I got rid of old clothes last month and even found some nice pieces that if forgot about. I find it liberating get rid of big old clothes. Keep up the good work. My father hates parting with anything. He collects and collects. Sometimes my mom will ask me to donate or throw away stuff and my father has no clue that they are gone.

Hmmm...we are out at least twice a day with our 3...no matter what the weather. There is a good saying here: There is no such thing as bad weather just wrong clothing :)

@schmetterlinge34- we live on a farm so we are out numerous times daily but this time of year turns our yard into a mud hole. I simply cannot have my dog out playing in mud and manure and then let him back in Not only frustrating for me but I don't want manure in my house....
