Weights! yes! I must pick them up and begin! Building muscle, I know, is the key to burning calories (gotta keep your eyes off of the scales, because muscle is heavier than fat), and the key is to go over and pick them up! Thanks for the encouragement. The rate I'm going I'll be another year older when I reach my goal weight. I know weights will help to speed things along.

That would be *weight-training

Warming up, Glen? What are you, a sensitive new age guy? lol Yeah, I should do that too, except I usually warm up by lifting way light to start. Best warmup for the muscle that will be worked is a light workout of that muscle. Splitting my workouts now. 2 days hypertrophy and 2 power lifting. The power lifting sets start at 30% of 1RM. @Orilay. I read something the other day. It claimed that the average 80 y.o. who starts lifting weights doubles their strength within a couple of months. It's there, it just has to be reminded. Muscle loss and mobility loss are the two most powerful indicators of pending catastrophe. It doesn't have to be heavy for older people to see a real benefit. (Not trying to imply anything about your age.) Of course, there are always the ones who stayed active right though, like my buddy DieHard. She's likely golfing again already.

I thought about writing it as, "What one person of one gender can do, another member of either gender can do." It just didn't have the same ring to it. I didn't think I'd need a disclaimer.

Men can't have babies so it wouldn't have been accurate.

Hey NM - I did some reps today with heavier than I have ever used before - heavier than the guys next to me! Woo Hoo - we aren't a big lifting type of gym, but I am becoming the animal! LOL

Good for you, HCB. it's empowering, right? I had a couple of young guys chuckle as I walked up and grabbed a pair of 15 pound dumbbells and lay on a bench and do presses. I didn't care. Then I did the 25s. When I hit the 50 pounders they looked like they were going to take up tennis.

Nice...50 pounders!!!

Yes! that is what I do, too. As the weights get higher the reps get lower - I chest pressed two 30 pound dumbbells - did about five until failure!
