ChristyLA's Journal, 09 August 2014

I'm happy about this loss. I was really worried that I wouldn't have any loss, after all the effort I've put in to be consistent with my new lifestyle. I would have loved to have a bigger loss, but I'll take it!

For exercise last week, I did a walk/run on Mon, weightlifting and strength training on Tues and Wed, and walking on Thursday and Friday (to recoup from muscle soreness). I didn't run at all on those last two days, because I had pulled my hip on Mon from walking with too long a stride. It's just how I walk, so I'll have to really focus on taking shorter steps until it becomes my normal.

I stayed under my RDI every day and stuck to my food plan: oatmeal and eggs for my two morning meals, a salad with protein for lunch, my regular dinner (meat, veggie, starch), and an evening snack (popcorn and a piece of fruit). I've been eating a lot more veggies :)

I've been avoiding certain fruits that are too sweet/appetite stimulating to me, like soft fruits. I'm eating just apples and pears right now, plus berries and cantaloupe in my oatmeal and water. I began putting fruit into a pitcher, filling it with water, and letting it sit over night. It's a nice way to have more of a variety of beverages.

I tried dried cranberries and avocado in my salads, but they're too high in sugar and calories, so I'm going to forgo them this week. They are not a necessity to me. And staying under my RDI is important to me - I feel accomplished when I do so. I love all the different ways I've been cooking my eggs and making my salads. I love variety!

I wish I had been more active last week. I wasn't consistent with the amount of calories I burned and some days were too low for my liking. That is something I'll try to pay more attention to this week. At least I worked out/was active every day.

How are you doing with your eating/exercising? Are there any clean eaters out there? What is your diet and your exercise program/routine like?

You're one of the hardest working people on this site. An inspiration to me. Glad you're here.

I wouldn't sweat about avocado. Though they show to be higher in calorie, they are extremely beneficial in that they are the kind of fats that will burn hot and stimulate rather than sit and weigh down. "Good fats" are fine. Don't stress about numbers as much as how your clothes fit and such. Day to day weight is just a passing number. You are doing quite well here.

You are doing amazing! I'm with Eddie, avocado is a highly nutritious food with all kinds of benefits for your body's health regardless of the calories. You're doing your body good! Ditto CR!

Also see if you can find pluots. Half plum, half apricot. Delicious and 40 cal for a medium one. Slow releasing sugars so the glycemic effect is very good.

Good for you Christy! I add avocados in when they go on sale. Lots of good nutrients in them and antioxidants. But for me they aren't part of a steady diet.

I know that avocados are healthy - they're just not for me. I can't taste them on my salad, so they're not worth the extra calories. I eat plenty of fish and take an Omega-3 supplement, so I'm getting plenty of healthy fats and omegas :)

I never thought about putting fruit in a pitcher with water and letting it sit. We grow tons of fruit, I'm going to try that!

Herbs work well in water also, mints, lemon balm, lemon and lime basil, combine mint and cucumbers. Basil and mint.

Great drop ChristyLA! I totally agree with you about the fruits, and avocados. I don't buy avocados but I will eat them (before they go bad :)) when my daughter gives me her extras, which is rare. I do put lemon slices in a glass, let it infuse overnight, and thoroughly enjoy it in the morning and throughout the day. I will put frozen berries in my nonfat Greek yogurt when I want to meet my daily ratio goals. I also have upped my egg consumption, so many recipes to do with them! I try not to be too concerned with the amount of fat in each one, though it is hard for me.

Great workout! You have put forth a lot of effort and it shows in the weight loss. You are doing the right moves by changing your eating for a lifestyle change and not a fad diet. LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Healthy and natural are the key.

Wholefoodnut, I'd love to try cucumber and mint water. I'm not sure where to get mint leaves though. Possibly my health food store.

Kattay, I don't worry about the yolks. I've never tried plain egg whites, but I'm not interested, lol. The yolk is the best part! :) Seriously though, they contain a lot of nutrients. An egg is just not an egg without a yolk, in my opinion.

Yep, T. Butterfly, it's all about making permanent changes :)
