I just wanna say that this morning I went for my first complete jog (this year) in which I ran the entire distance (1.5 miles) in 18 min. That includes 3 min of a warm-up and cool-down. All included, it's a 12 min mile and is my best time yet. I'm so happy!
I should say that running/jogging is not easy for me physically. It's a mental struggle too. I'm just proud that I did good (for me), because that's what matters :) So don't compare yourself to others...just try to do better than you did before.
Keep up your workouts, everyone!

"Run your own race" is something I always tell myself, too. Way to go!

I got an autograph from Tim Broe once, who is from Peoria, IL, and won the Steamboat Classic 4 miler a few times, and ran a few years ago in the Olympics. I was making excuses for my slow times and he told me simply, "Speed is relative." You will get better as time goes by and any improvement relative to your past performance will seem like a huge victory, regardless how it stacks up against other's performance.

Thank you, everyone! This route is my new focus for improvement. I was so happy to be able to run the whole thing. The thought of doing so was overwhelming, but I was determined to give it a try - and I did it.

I had been doing walk/run intervals for 2 miles, which I believe prepared me for this run today. I've run 3+ miles before, but at a very slow pace. I'm not going for distance running right now...just trying to improve my pace to strengthen my heart and lungs.

I was just thinking this the other morning when I was running, how when you start you pretty much have to do intervals...I called it "connecting the dots"....eventually the dots are connected and you're doing it! woohoo (then of course I had PeeWee Herman singing "connect the dots, lalalala" stuck in my head)
