I know the feeling, Judyrose! This morning: 97 mg/dL! Shooting for average daily carbs around 75g, still not making it consistently, but the effort is having a great effect. My average BS is now 112 mg/dL. The amount of carbohydrate and fat I was eating before July 1st was keeping my average BS above 250 mg/dL and A1c above 9%. Last Thursday, on my "pseudo-carb-up" binge, I consumed 323.97g carbohydrate and 167.3g fat. That would have been a typical day in the not-so-distant past. Not all the anti-hyperglycemic medication in the world is going to compensate for that! It's a great feeling to know that, with continued weight loss, I'll be able to reduce my medications even more.

Yep, JudyR I was on insulin and Metformin and am totally diet controlled now. When I was in the hospital for my surgery they tried to give me insulin when I had a blood sugar reading of 141. I told them no, to give me some water and that it would mellow out. My sugars then stayed between 78-120 for the 7 days of a crap menu of half carbs even! LOL (because I had a reconstructed bowel) but my normal morning sugars, if I don't oversleep and let my liver dump extra sugars on me, run in the 82-95 range consistently and have for two years. This isn't even with strict keto. This is protein set for your proper size, water, and LOTS of fiber in the carb choices you make. I eat whole and ancient grains and nuts and seeds in small amounts to add to my protein and fat and they are good sources of fiber. When you eat a higher protein diet, you need the fiber! LOL 🤷🏻‍♀️

Congratulations on doing so well with your BG. Was pre-diabetic for a long time and doctor wasn't happy with what I was trying to do, so I was on insulin. Was a big wake up call for me. 60 days later I was off insulin and now on 4 metformin per day. Doc saw my BG numbers last week and wants me to take just 2. I'm doing low carb, high protein, natural food, high fiber. Only true weakness I have is peanut butter but if used sparingly I get along ok. Have lost 65 lb since Feb 2017; 15 since mid-May 2017. I found a combination of carbs/protein that work for me in 1500-1800 cals/ day. Keep at it. The strict diet can be a downer sometimes. Change it up. This week I'm going to try Carba-nada pasta. Low carb pasta and it's supposed to be pretty good. I so miss my spaghetti dinners!

That's fantastic! I'm so happy for you!

@Miraculum, yes. Said that because I know people who successfully reversed diabetes on LC without going full-on keto. Love seeing this kind of success!

LCHF effect on the ol' sugar is pretty neat, huh? Congrats. Some of my nurses have thought something might be wrong w/ test eqip. Consistent high-to-mid-80's. : )

@doublkranch look at the low carb high fat diets and realize that your body can supply a great deal of the 'fat' to satisfy your hunger once you get your water and protein REQUIREMENTS in. I would also suggest reading (or listening to on YouTube) Dr. Jason Fung's "The Obesity Code." Best reading you can ever do if you are a diabetic! @ PbSULAK it's pretty funny dealing with the medical community isn't it. I freaked out my nurses during a recent hospital stay. Kept refusing insulin and showing them how diet would take care of it! LOL

Dr. Berg on youtube also explains why fats don't effect the glycemic OR the INSULIN index (which is secondary digestion and just as important to diabetics but most doctors don't address it!) Proteins do affect your insulin index, so does fructose, (or fruit sugar), and sucralose which is a bond of one glucose and one fructose. Fats have a little bit different way of processing in the body, and "good fats" as our grandmas' called them are still good fats and have been good fats for centuries for a reason. But if you've already got alot of that "good fat" hanging around on your body you only really need enough fat in your diet to stave off hunger pangs. You want the body to use it's own fat and get rid of all the toxins it's stored in that fat as well.

OMG Thanks to all of you. I am truly overwhelmed today. So much good stuff and well wishes from all. All this on top of the weight loss and BS win. i am sooooo grateful...didn't think it was possible to feel this good and be so renewed... I am certain reality will return...but I will take this over all the despondency I experienced when I wasn't here. Thank you again. Thank you again.
