ShyGuy's Journal, 23 April 2017

Yesterday, unexpectedly, turned into a cheat day. I went to a meeting for the church auxiliary that I participate in, and some of the members brought in a bunch of food. There was fried chicken, potato salad, macaroni salad, rolls and a variety of desserts. Unfortunately, this time, I couldn't resist, so I had some fried chicken, potato salad, and one of the delicious homemade cookies that were brought in. That had a domino effect on the rest of my day. So, later in the day I had a piece of deep dish pizza, while attending a Faith Group; since the damage had already been done, and I didn't feel like cooking, I stopped at a Thai Restaurant for some Pad Thai, and Chicken Satay, to take home. As delicious as it all was, I paid the price, last night, by experiencing leg cramps most of the night. And no, it wasn't worth it in the long run, due to the pain. However, I'm back on track, today, having learned a painful lesson. Next time, hopefully, I'll remember the pain experienced this time, and avoid another cheat day. Some days are truly better than others.

Isn't it just like that once you hit the slippery slope....I know you, it won't be happening again any time soon. Thanks for being honest...

The lessons we learn the hard way usually stick! As long as you keep moving forward, that's the important part.

Thanks ladies. That was a hard lesson to be reacquainted with, and, Gwen, you are right, it won't be happening again any time soon.

You've been resisting so much lately....maybe it caught up with you. There is always tomorrow! I forget how awful a cheat makes me feel!

We are addicts. I think most of us know the domino effect and most of us know we will pay the price for our slip. As you know, the best thing is to try to learn from it and whatever else, get right back on the wagon. I know you will anyway, not suggesting you wouldnt. But We are human, and we make mistakes, the main thing is not to dwell on it. Look how well you're doing!!!!!!

Funny how we now pay attention to the after effects of not being careful. I was awake most of Friday night because I, too, fell off the wagon. Onward and downward!

Back on the horse! Yes, learning to say "No" is a major part of dieting, and so is avoiding buffet tables. I compromise on this one: I use a small, dessert-sized plate and allow myself whatever fits on that plate, no seconds. Portion control is key to success.

Don't let one cheat de-rail your entire day. When you fall off the horse...climb right back on!
