Stressful week! I hired a carpenter, back in November to install windows and doors , transforming a screened porch into a sunroom. The guy has been showing up for partial days and, in spite of promising to have the job complete by last week, so that I'd have a weekend to paint, it is not yet done. He was here today and will finish the interior trim tomorrow. The problem is that I have house guests - family arriving tomorrow. The delay has meant that my Christmas tree is not up, the living room is piled with the furniture that's going into the sunroom. The house is a jumble, and I have to work right through tomorrow! I just sent out an email to my kids that everyone should expect to be moving furniture and cleaning house when they arrive tomorrow. It's not the welcome I had hoped for. We will be able to use the new room. It just won't be painted. It has a great wood stove and to-die-for views, so I think we can enjoy it, even if it's not finished. It's been a stressful lead up to Christmas! My gifts are simple, because of the house work. Plus I've been working hard at work, making Christmas centerpieces with 10 different groups of court-involved youth. They've enjoyed that, and are happy to have a gift for their families from inside lock-up. In spite of all this, I've been sticking to my LCHF program and losing weight, no drifting out of Onderland.

Well, enjoy your Christmas week, everyone. I'm staggering in to the finish line this year - a little ragged.

Well, so much for the best made plans, and be glad that the contractor didn't rip you off, like with us, and many, many others. We hired one of my wife's family that ripped us off, and took over a year to finish the work. My wife still hates him.

It's not the start you hoped for but I'm sure it will be wonderful. Enjoy yourself, time with family and take a minute to relax.

I'm sure the wood stove will lend a cozy atmosphere to the gathering, and knowing you helped the kids in lockup have a feeling of Christmas has to make you feel good. Rhonda and the others are right..it's all about being together. Merry Christmas, Erika!

Update: Everyone arrived ready to pitch in. It was like one of those home improvement time lapse videos, brooms and vacuums going, rugs unrolled, furniture in place, bouquets in vases, throw pillows, in came the Christmas tree, dinner on the table , a fire in in the stove, pop a bottle of wine and Voila - Christmas. It was pretty heart-warming and fun. My family is OK! By the end of the evening the tree was decorated and everyone was snug in a newly made bed. Whew!

You are an inspiration! So glad you got to enjoy the room. It's not so bad that your kids pitched in, either.

Update: Well we had a lovely Christmas with a house full from Friday night to Tuesday morning. Then everyone left; I did a lot of laundry and recycling and now I'm getting back to painting that room. Removing the furniture, rolling up the rug, laying down the drop cloths. It's pretty quiet, but I'll put on some music. I love the new room. It's always a little sad for the empty-nesters when everyone leaves again! But of course, it's great that they come home and that they have good lives to return to. No complaints!

You have everything to be proud of, Erika! I know what it is like to have a reno going on and I am not sure If I was working AND had family coming to visit for the biggest holiday of the year that I could have stuck to my low carb eating. You are amazing. Well done! You are in ONEderland and that took a lot of strength getting there. You inspire me!! \
