JoshFS's Journal, 20 June 2016

Hello FatSecret community. Today I currently weighed in at 185.8. My last weigh in was on June 10th, I weighed in at 188.6. Since January 18th of this year I've lost over 50 pounds in a 5 month period. I really didn't have an agenda for this journal, except for that I said I'd weigh in again today since the previous journal. This month I was shooting for weighing in every 10 days until the end of the month. I had a good weekend in the form of dieting. Thursday night at midnight, I started fasting until 11:00 pm Friday night. A 23 hours fast. I broke my fast by eating 500 plus calories of breakfast sausage links and a few slices of swiss cheese. On Saturday I only had 30 grams of carbs in the form of 3 small hard candies and a Coors non alcoholic beer. The beer only has 66 calories, because there is no alcohol in it. I also ate a can of Salmon which contains no carbs, just lots of protein. Sunday by 11:30 in the morning I was hungry for corned beef. I had been hesitant to buy corned beef days prior, because it runs between 5 to $ 6.00 for a 12 ounce can. I simply thought that the price was to high until I decided to buy a can for Sunday. Well I learned that a can of corned beef is worth it in that it packs a 700 calorie punch in the form of protein and fat. And by the time I was 3/4 ways done eating my corned beef I was getting full. And I said to my self, wow this is going to keep me full for the rest of the day. And so it did. A few hours after eating , I went with my wife to the theatre, to watch Central Intelligence. It was a good movie, it had action and was funny. And that was my weekend. Today I was happy with my weigh in and decided to eat out. So I had enchiladas with chips and salsa about 12:30 pm, my food kept me full for about 6 hours. I was outside today and it was a hot day. I should of took ice water with me while being outside working today. So when I got home I was craving a cold non alcoholic beer. I can't drink alcoholic beverages, because it aggravates my gout. So I had a non alcoholic beer and went into town again bought more, because I was thirsty today. I wanted carbonation without a sweet taste. I already have diet sodas, zero calorie green tea, and no calorie koolaid. The zero calorie tea I have really helps with thirst when you drink it in a big glass with ice. Today is the 1st day of summer and it's going to be hot here at least until september. I also bought a closeable 2.2 liter bottle for water. It is already in the fridge with water in it, for when I want to drink strait up cold water. I got some new coffee as well, I will try it out tomorrow. Well I posted pictures of my food and drink from the weekend plus my restaurant meal today and one photo of the game room in the theatre. I used imgur.com for the 1st time today vs photobucket. Imgur is so much faster and neater. I will probably just weigh in again for the 4th of July, unless I can hit the 180 pound mark sooner. I wish you all the best of luck for the summer.

darn, what great results; but, I am so confused. Maybe, eating low carbs and more protein fills us up; but, it would put women/ me for sure on cholesterol meds. Carbs are not good either; just such a challenge for me; it has to be moderation

Thanks Foreverhealthy2. I am trying to do the low carb protein thing just until the 4th of July. And I do take Pravastatin 10 mg a day, which is for cholesterol. That is not due to me doing a temporary low carb protein and fat diet. I have been on cholesterol medication for over two years, Since the days that I was over 240 pounds. I much watch my carbs as well. in that I take Metformin to work with my diabetes / pre diabetes. The good news is my A1C was at a 6.4 last December of 2015, and have brought it down to a 5.2 over 1 month ago. Back in December I wasn't dieting or cutting calories. I had very bad eating habits, making and eating a ton of popcorn with lots of butter at the late hours of the night. So my Metformin medication got reduced from 800mg twice a day to just 500mg twice a day. But you are right, moderation is the key. Since January of this year, I've eating everything I wanted, but just in moderation. I like to fast from midnight every night until between 12:00 to 3:00 pm the next day. Then just try to eat a balanced meal to sustain me for the rest of the day.The logic is to force my body to burn fat for a minimum of 12 hours, then eat just enough to sustain me for the rest of the day. Do this every day for several days weeks and months and you achieve results. I wanted to get a CBC blood test last week to see where all my numbers are at. Cholesterol triglycerides sodium and all that good stuff. But my doctor looked at my CBC from last year, recently and suggested that I get it done in this November. For now, I will continue to practice intermittent fasting, CICO / calories calories out, moderation, and creativity with my food and drink. To make a long story short, savor the flavors in moderation for the rest of the year.

Josh, my mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer this January and diabetic; so she ended up with 4 metformin daily because her sugars are 9.5. what a challenge we have had because she doesn't remember what she ate 15 minutes ago; or what she should eat to better control her diabetes. such a tough combination of illness. so, keep up the good work. I see you like cheese like the most of us; have you tried 'laughing cow cheese wedges. and pita chips? I even like the cheese in tuna for a sandwich on one slice bread, with some tiny capers or pickle bits.

Sorry to hear about you Mom's diagnosis Foreverhealthy. I hope she can get on a good diet plan soon. There are healthy fats she could eat to shut her high blood sugars down. I like avocados. Yes I like cheese too. Those laughing cow wedges you mentioned sound good. I'll have to try it soon. I love cheese and tuna also. Salmon cheese and pickles are good too.
