my 2nd copy of "The New Atkins for a New You" arrived ( i lost my original copy I bought 6 yrs ago somewheres recently and cant find anywhere) and Im ecstatic. Its nothing new and Ive read it 50000xxx but its new and shiny. I like have the book to reference and I love the meal plan/menu and the recipes and just having the security of not having to always decide what to eat, when i can open the book and copy one f their meals. And did I say i love the recipes? they have a ton of salad dressing recipes.. makes this girl happy LOL.
On a side note * warning* does low carb make any one gassy? Ive been really stinking up the place since I got back on hardcore Jan 1st and feel like its just gotten worse. I actually made a dr's appt to be sure its not something else and Im taking the gas x pills but jeez, if I dont take, DH sleeps on the couch. WTH. sorry if this is TMI. I just dont remember it being this bad before.. Any advice? (this one of those times Im glad no one here knows me in real life LOL bc i would never own up it LOL)

Just a possibility, not saying you have it, but when you ate carbs and sugar you could have given yourself a candida infection. It's pretty common and can cause the symptoms you describe and a belly full of sugar is the perfect environment for it.

Phil to be blunt here.. how would a yeast infection cause farts ? Im confused.. and Im sure I would know if I had a yeast infection.. just saying..

just the opposite. DH said the hang time was horrible and it was like walking into a brick wall. Of course he had to be theatrical too.

Candida overgrowth occurs in the digestive tract. You must be thinking of some other kind of yeast infection.

Phil, how embarrassing bwhahahahahahah... is that urgent or can it wait till i see my dr on 02/03.. see i had h.pylori once and thought it might be that..

My wife had h. pylori, it took her a long time to get over it. Candida can wait until your next dr. visit, you might not have it, probably don't, but it could explain your symptoms.

You are doing great and yes when I was doing Atkins hard core very gassy. Yikes

Having done Atkins for years, I can say yes, there are components that can/will make you gassy. Some of the sweeteners like Xylitol, Erthritol, Maltitol....all sugar alcohols, will do that. If you try them in increments- maybe 1/4 or 1/2 tsp a day, for a week, then increase from there gradually, it might be more tolerable. (Those Russell Stover SF candies are killers. I avoid those like the plague.) Or, just use Truvia, or a stevia based sweetener. Another factor is the increased intake of certain veggies, like broccoli, onion. cauliflower, brussel sprouts, cabbage...all can cause gas. You might be able to mitigate some of the volatility with Gas-X or Bean-o. If you visit Pintrest, and search for lo-carb recipes, there are some fantastic yummies out there! Reuben Casserole, Veggistrone soup...wonderful stuff! HTH!

see that's makes sense Annie bc Ive been eating the atkins bars like 2 times a day. I ate my last one though and I moved over all the sweeteners to stevia that I just bought and i did noticed its not so bad but again, Im not real gassy person so its is reason to be alarmed.. and jeez embarrassing for sure..

Red, the Atkins bars make me gassy. People tolerate them differently. For some it gives loose stools/cramping, for me just extra air and a stall with too many. I find that I can't moderate myself with them though so I try not to bring them home.

NN. I agree the bars may be messing me up.. but Ive had to have em to avoid falling off the wagon. I ate the last one today.. and since im doing fruit now I hope i wont need em. I cut out diet sodas for that same reason, they make my tummy hurt.. Im still gonna keep the dr's appt to be sure bc now Im worried its bacteria LOL and DH, bless his heart has been really understanding and if he gets caught down wind, just walks away LOL bwahahahaha

Sugar alcohol is some pretty nasty stuff.

I find these foods and fake foods gas-provoking: Artificial sweeteners, fresh veggies (in salad bars and preprepared salads) with sulfites (not always labeled), and raw cruciferous veggies (broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower). Berries with seeds (sadly, they all seem to have them but especially blueberries and blackberries) can also do this too.

sugar alcohols and artificial sweeteners if over eaten will give you gas and also can have a laxative effect.

trackin64, ive had all of those ..ugh .. Sweet Peaches, I think Ive def over done it on the artificial sweeteners by eating all those darn bars.. I have so much gas I could fuel the next mission to Mars.. jeez LOL Im my own worst enemy. Starting a "crap cleanse" pun intended hehe.. moved the splenda away from the coffee, no more bars, I dont care. Meanwhile me and been-o will be shacked up in the back room with cats and thank gawd for febreeze candles..

I can't even eat one of those Atkins bars without incurring a lot of "bubbles." The shakes don't bother me too much, but I have maybe 1 a week at most.

Redgirl1974. Also be aware that some people do metabolize sugar alcohols in the same manner as sugar. To some, they are no different than sugar. I tried a few of the Atkins bars. They do tend to make me ahh .... hmmmm..... loose. So I don't eat them any more.

I'd have to say that LCHF/Keto has caused the LEAST amount of 'gas' I've ever had, virtually none. All the bowel processes operate very normally. It was when I was eating the processed LCHF foods, like the ones with sugar alcohols that everyone else has pointed out that I got gassy.

see frosty, I totally agree, before the holidays, welp , i ran right on schedule if you know what I mean,, now everything is gotten outta wack so Im just re adjusting the "schedule" and have been super gassy since I added the bars. Bottom line, I know , wait we all know the bars do more damage than good so i just need to cut them out. I was considering do a few days of induction with no bars to see if that reset things and of course more water. MEH, crossing my fingers today is better
