HCB's Journal, 23 December 2015

Greetings my Best Buddies,

Happy Days to all of you!

I saw my endocrinologist this week and he LOWERED my medicine AGAIN!!!

I am really upset because thyroid hormone levels impact all metabolic processes...so I am very concerned that even working out five days and eating cleanly, I just may not lose weight!

The doctor is giving me the usual Synthroid to address the T4 and now added a second medicine to address the T3. So, I have decided after the holidays, I will give it a try for a few weeks and see if my weight goes down with my normal exercise and clean eating routine.

I was losing slowly as it was but I am really worried it will stall and I will be stuck in the 170's. Total Bummer if that happens!

MY CURRENT GOAL: Weigh the same in January 2016 as my low - 171 pounds OR less
NO GAIN, NO GAIN through the holidays.

NEW Words of the Week:
"Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out."
I am dedicated, determined and diligent

Losing weight is 80% diet, if you're working out 5 days a week to "burn" extra calories....ease up. Stress is stress, if you don't have the resources available and are asking your body to do extra amounts of work, it will fight to preserve the resources it has, which is fat.

Thank you Mahjohn but you may have missed my point - diet and exercise are not my issue; it is the thyroid medication change that can impact my progress. I have no issue with clean eating and regular weight lifting.

Maybe he's seeing improvement enough to lower the meds?? I read that's common on LCHF. ...also what mahjohn said.

Just stick with it, H. You have been losing weight steadily over the last months, and you're doing great! You're not a fast loser, and I can certainly empathise with that! But it is not a race. Patience, girl! And don't worry about a problem that hasn't even arisen yet! But what am I doing, telling you this stuff? I know you know it already! Have a great Christmas!

Hey H, you've come a long way from your start weight and you are much fitter and healthier than before too. You have a great attitude (very supportive and inspirational), work ethic and understand your body much better...don't let the scale dictate your satisfaction with your efforts, sure it's nice to see those numbers drop, but when you get close to your body's ideal weight it's more about being healther, stronger and having greater endurance than what the scale says. Take care and have a wonderful Christmas and holiday season!!

Thanks everyone! And Steven Lloyd, you are so right! I rocked some 35lb and 40lb dumbbells at the gym yesterday!

Dr's can be difficult to work with, as they want everyone in a specific "box", when it doesn't work like that.....good luck!

You continue to impress me with your awesome dedication. I know you are up for whatever challenges your medication presents to you. :)

I think it's great that the medications are being reduced. Logically they should be, right? Because I'm sure doctors have to take in consideration that someone 60 pounds heavier than you would need more, right? Like the child dosage vs. adult dosage idea. Still, if you're only 5' tall, I'd try the simplest diet method, and cut back to 900-1000 calories/day, and ignore the medications.

I should clarify my last sentence: I meant get it out of your head that the meds are the issue here. I lost weight pretty quickly around the 170 mark because I changed up my diet and kept calories between 1000-1200/day. If I go above 1400, I stall, no matter whether I go to the gym or not.

Sorry to hear about your thyroid issues. You're doing great though. Have you mentioned your diet to your doctor? There have been some studies that show reducing carbs reduces T3. Have a merry Christmas!

You've done great and I'm sure will continue to do so. I have thyroid issues also, have actually been out of meds for it for several months and am still losing weight. I'm assuming the docs are monitoring your thyroid levels. Keep up all your fine work and enjoy the holidays!

Sounds like you are committed and in control of the situation. Merry Christmas!!

Well done on your weights! I couldn't lift 35lb, no way! I need to get working on that!
