DianneGardner's Journal, 15 September 2015

My mother is 93 today. A great lady. Retired teacher. World's best little Mama. Always there for me and her entire family, colleagues and students. Master teacher, teacher of the year 5 separate times including in Christiansted in the U.S. Virgin Islands. First Continental teacher to be so honored in 1966. Stood by me through my terrible rock bottom summer of 1984 when my life went to hell on pills. Fought for justice all her life. Participated in the civil rights movement in the 50s and 60s and taught Dianne to value and pursue social justice. A member of the WWII generation. The greatest generation. A Navy Wave. Salutatorian of her class. Forensic debater in college. Proud daughter of a Greek immigrant. A reasonable, sane, civil, sensible woman who worked hard all her life.

On, Dianne, I love this woman without even meeting her! Such a strong and inspirational woman. This comes from another Civil Rights worker during the 60s. Her generation of liberal women were such important role models for us younger ones. Happy Happy Birthday to her!

Thank you...I agree ...she was an inspiration...and she always did the right thing even if there was a cost..taking action in civil rights was very dangerous socially and professionally back then..still is in some places...

Wow! What a woman. You are a very lucky daughter. Treasure her. I lost my wonderful mother last year on her 90th birthday. I only have one aunt and uncle left from that amazing generation. The world will be a poorer place with the passing of the last of them.
