Jonathan Walsh's Journal, 27 April 2015

Starting weight = 476 pounds
Week #13 Closing = 393 pounds

Numbers Update:
Released 83 pounds
Banished 17.43% of body weight
BMI down 10.0 points to 56.4 points

No soda for 91 days
No alcohol for 94 days
No cheating on diet for 91 days

Long week; had many late night work obligations early in the week as well. Kicked up the cardio later in the week. Put in nearly 18 miles of walking. Erased 12 pounds of old Jon & let me hit my next milestone goal; to break into the 390's. So I need an intense week to insure I do not slip or stall on this climb.

The message earlier in the week was about you being in control of you & your destiny. I don't want to confuse the climbers out there, I was not saying you are alone.

I want all of us to understand, each of us is an army of one. However, we are linked here, by this chain, on this mountain, fighting this fight. I am linked to you & you are linked to me. All of us comprise we. We are a legion of armies.

We are united to help all the individual "you's" up this mountain. We are here to strengthen each other & hone our skills as we navigate this journey. We are here to insure each of us remains resolute. Each of us remains tenacious. Each of us remains focused & fierce.

Each of us will fall. We are here to pick all the "you's" up when that happens. We are one. When "you" goes; "we" go. We are responsible for the choices made by the man / woman in the mirror, but there is a band of climbers of mountains here to help that person make better choices.

So let's get to doing what we do gang. Let's set forth on anther day of fulfilling our destinies. Let's be tenacious in our climb this day, this week. Let's let the inspiration of this legion loose on this mountain side & get these armies motivated to climb. We few. We very few climbers of mountains are building the destiny we want to be a part of. You may be alone in body, but that is not the case in spirit; the spirit of this legion is forever at your ready. I can see you in my mind's eye brothers & sisters. Let's keep our eyes trained on the peak & get to climbing!!!

UPDATE ALERT:

Well, just got in from the doctor for my regular Monday weigh in's with some good news / bad news.

The BAD News: The scale I use at work to weigh on Monday mornings was evidently not calibrated correctly this morning. So, my 4 pound weight loss was not 4 pounds.

The GOOD News: I weighed in at the doctor's office on two separate scales; because I wanted them to verify their number, at 393 pounds. So instead of my very happy 4 pound loss; my 18 miles worth of walking, actually delivered a freaking deliriously ecstatic 12 pound loss. Plus I hit a milestone & dropped under 400 pounds.

I was so overwhelmed I was speechless after the second weigh in. I even teared up a little.

I want to thank all of you out there for your support. I know without it, I would not be enjoying the success I have had. I could never thank all of you enough.

Your doing great! Don't over do it in walking too much to fast. I remember first few months of walking my knees and ankles bothered me and sometimes I had to take a day off or rest them. As you become more active it is very important to make sure your vitamin D levels are normal so your body can absorb calcium. It is proven that Vitamin D helps control hunger and my weight loss VA doctor put me on them right away.

Thanks for the support & tips!!! Doctor has been monitoring my vitamin D for about 6 months & I'm OK now. All of you rock & help motivate me. On Saturday, it was sweltering hot, me & the dog were both spent & still had another 1/2 mile or so to get home & I felt you there. I kept telling myself, out loud; "You're almost there. They are pushing you up the mountain right now." I said it over & over. If anyone else but you climbers of mountains could have heard me they would have locked me up in a psych ward. I can imagine the 911 call call. Mad man, walking a dog; thinks he's climbing a mountain!!! He needs help!!! He's probably dangerous!!! Thank God I was on a lonely, backwoods road deep in southeast Georgia & my dog can't use a phone.

Joe, today is your day. Today you join this band of climbers of mountains. Today, you start building a better Joe. We are all going to the peak brother & we are leaving no one behind. As I describe myself all the time, this is time for New Joe to start chiseling out of Old Joe. Pack your gear brother. I know you can do this because I can do it. Therefore I know everybody can do it. Are you in?
