DairyKing's Journal, 19 September 2014

Good Morning, FS Warriors! I thought about not journaling since it's a rest day, and there's nothing spectacular going on in my life today. I'm gearing up for the day with the grandkids tomorrow, but wouldn't you know it, it's the only day this week that they have predicted thunderstorms, and most of the activities are outside. There hasn't been any communication on what the plan will be if it rains, so I'm just praying it doesn't until the kids are wore out, and we're headed home.

Plumber had to come back again last night because DW smelled gas again. I went back there and sure enough, there was the faint smell of gas. They changed a fitting, and I hope that is the end of it. It's good that we are getting this all out of the way before the furnaces are actually needed. Even though it's been going down into the 40's at night, the furnaces still haven't had to run. The school is pretty well insulated. It ought to be, we installed 70 new windows, the size of most peoples front doors. And we did install new doors as well. One thing I learned upon buying the school was that school doors had crash bars on them, and opened out for a mass exodus in case of emergency. Residences have doors that open in. Just a little trivia for you, but it wasn't trivial for us, because we had to take up some thick tile that kept new residential style doors from opening in. Also, we installed French Doors at the top of the stairs as further insulation and aesthetics, considering the 20 ft ceilings at the entrance way.

I know all of this has so much to do with dieting and all, but sometimes I sit at this keyboard and things just start appearing on the screen. It's not my fault. :) I plan on doing an easy 3 mile run in the morning, and not sure about Sunday. My plan calls for a 5K race, but that isn't going to happen. I will either run slow and long, or run 5K at a tempo or race pace. Depends on the alignment of the stars I guess. Sunrises are happening later and later in the mornings, and soon all my running will be in the dark, even on the weekends. Sucks, but that is the way it works. Come to work in the dark and go home in the dark. At least I'm not living where the sun takes a few months off.

DW saved out a couple pints worth of salsa, so I could play around with it. I took a habanero and chopped it up, boiled the salsa for a while and then she canned it. Love homemade salsa! The problem is with the chips I scoop it out with. Lots of sodium and an abundance of calories. We have gotten chips that were so salty we couldn't even eat them. I guess I need to find some low sodium tortilla chips. I'm sure there is such a thing; hope I don't have to go to a health food store to buy them. I have seen recipes for making them yourself - some kind of pita chip or something.

I haven't had much of a chance to express my artistic side lately. It just seems that there has been so much going on with the family lately, and getting ready for the winter, that I just haven't been able to devote much time to any crafts, cabinets, or even working on the cars and motorcycles. I put off doing some things until the nicer weather, and then I find that the mowing, yard work, water intrusion and those kind of things occupy the majority of my free time. Guess I'm going to have to do more in the cold weather. Now that I have a new furnace in my workshop, I'm hoping things will be different this winter. Yay! The dog and I ought to be pretty cozy!

And the demolition hammer (jackhammer) that I ordered on the 10th, got put on the FedEx truck, made it to the first distribution point, and then got lost. Harbor Freight, whom I ordered it from, says that they have to put a tracer on it that takes 3 to 5 business days, and if they can't find it, they'll reprocess the order. Not bad for something that was supposed to have arrived on Monday, huh. Funny thing is, they have a store just 5 minutes away. I had it shipped to my house for convenience sake.

Well, I hope some of my buddies don't think that I intentionally neglect their journals. Sometimes I feel like commenting on them is the kiss of death. Their journals either seem to be generating a lot of activity, or there hasn't been any support yet, and then I comment on them, and scrreeeetch, the brakes come on and it loses all momentum. I always intend it to have the opposite effect. Guess I'll just click the Support button. Anyway, hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Toodles!

Wish you luck with that furnace. Hope it doesn't give you any more trouble. You have done a lot of work on that school with the windows and doors. My ex and I use to own a repair and remodeling business so I know the work that goes into replacing those items. Good luck with the jackhammer too. That should be interesting when you work with that! Please comment on my journals! I need the support and input. Getting frustrated!

Love reading your stories, a very interesting life you have...lol....and good luck with getting your jackhammer, I know it can be frustrating when they loose our orders because it happened to my husband too, and when you are waiting for something it can be a pain...Have a wonderful weekend, were off to the boat show here in our city..Pacific Northwest!

When I know I'm craving the salsa and the chips are just the shovel I will microwave a flour tortilla about 60 seconds and make it crispy then break and scoop. Not as much salt as processed chips and having to nuke them one at a time gives me pause to think as I haul my chip eating butt out of the chair yet again. Please continue to comment on my journals whenever you have time and have packed a lunch to read them ( I know, they get long). You are very much loved here and I do feel neglected when you don't show up so THERE.

DK, if the only things posted on this site were diet related, it would be boring indeed! I find the personal side to be inspiring and entertaining, so keep on posting just as you have! I love hearing about the old school and what you've done with it. It's kind of hard to imagine actually living in a school building, though. Please continue to comment on my journals as I relish the input and sometimes an objective view is needed.

Thanks, Guys! OK, you touched me! Some days just seem a little dry and nobody is talking. Other days, it's non stop. We all need a bit of motivation now and then, some more than others. I'm not so much worried about you guys that are pretty active on here; you've proven that you're in it for the long haul. But some of my buddies only make an occasional appearance, and it bothers me that they may think they don't count. It may just be that I think too much. ;)

And I had a fit when I had to put in 18 wooden windows. Stained and finished them. That was a huge project, but I loved it as I enjoy refinishing any wood projects, especially old furniture.
