Good Morning, FS Warriors! Out the door before 4 this morning and ran just shy of 3 miles. Mother nature called and the benefit of charging on, did not seem to outweight the cost associated with bypassing the bathroom. I'm starting to record in my running journals the foods I'm eating the night before and their effects on my running the next morning. Last night, DW and I went out to eat because the Nursing Home Ministry gig was cancelled. She was in the mood for liver and onions and I wasn't. I had a chicken breast smothered in mushrooms, onions and mozarella (or some kind of light colored cheese), mashed potatoes and gravy, and peas. Aside from the fact that the cheese and gravy were loaded with calories, I'm pretty sure the meal was about twice the portions that I should have eaten. I rarely eat dessert, and didn't this time. However, I have indulged more in the last couple of weeks than I should have. To be quite honest, with all the exercising I'm doing, I think my issue, and what I need to address, is more of volume , or portion control, than the actual ingredients themselves. I am convinced, as I have been from the beginning of this journey, that, regardless of the diet you are on, moderation is the key to success. If you choose a diet that is restrictive as far as food groups go, but still indulge in great quantities, you will not effect a permanent lifestyle change, and it is unlikely you will achieve an optimum BMI or %body fat.
DW brought it to my attention last night that there was a faint gas smell coming from one of the furnaces. I texted our contact at the Plumbing & Heating place, and they came over last night and fixed it. Just didn't get one of the pipes quite tight enough after they reinstalled lines following installation of the A/C units. I think it was small enough that we could have gone at least a few more hours before we blew the house up. LOL! JK. It was leaking, but it was a very small leak that dissipated in the air very quickly.
Saturday, we are taking two of the grandkids to a function that the corporation is hosting that includes clowns, a petting zoo, pony rides, inflatable bouncers, face painting, story telling, hayrides, blacksmithing, mascotts from Crimestoppers and the Peoria Chiefs baseball team and lots of other stuff. One just turned 5 years old and the other is 3, so should be just about perfect.
Well, that's about all that's happening in the life and times of DK. Toodles!

OMG.. you've had quite the interesting 24 hours or so. Probably parm cheese, just my guess. High five to DW for noting the gas leak... wow! I agree, it's not 'the food' as much as it's 'the quantity' for the most part. Sure there's a side by side caloric / nutrition quality to be considered; a pound of chocolate versus a pound of mixed vegetables is still a pound but .. oh well, you don't need me to agree with you, I'm preaching to the choir and you're the main act here.

Thanks. Yeah, Bella, can you imagine what it would be like to drink my RDI in Cabernet Sauvignon? I'd have like, uh . . . a headache!

So glad your DW noticed the gas leak. That could have been a disaster. Speaking of main act, Bella, how ever will the clowns be funnier than DK. That will be a hard act to follow, but it sounds like great fun. DK, I agree with you about moderation. I guess we all have to find our permanent lifestyle change. I think some would consider my diet restrictive, but to me it's just all of my favourite foods. The problem for me is self-sabotage. When I engage in foods for which I have intolerance in the sabotage mood, it's like a viscious circle. It makes me feel bad and so I have more which makes me feel worse. AFAIK, the foods that you eat don't make you feel bad. You enjoy your food and you do great exercise. Can't beat that formula.

You're right, Heather, the foods that I eat don't make me feel bad. Sometimes I feel bad, or guilty, that I ate them, but I get over it pretty quick. My RDI is 2000 calories a day; that makes 730,000 calories every year. When I get close to that, I have to stop eating. It's simple math.

Yikes, you better watch out on Thanksgiving...you might be done by December, that's a long cold month ;)

Uh, I just changed my RDI to the lower number. Doesn't count this year. :)

Yep.. it'd be like saying 'well, vodka IS from a potato and trying to justify it as one of my vegetables for the day :-)

Interesting that the oldest vodka (Smirnoff is actually made with corn), and it is the one the bartenders serve if you don't specify a brand. Had to look it up.

Either way, it's a vegetable, so you're safe, Bella.

Smirnoff... oh.. that takes me back .. that's some behind kicking stuff.

That dinner sounded delicious. What a treat! I probably would have hibernated straight until morning with the cheese and gravy. Yummmmmmmmm!
