Damn food! I went to my mother in law's house for dinner last night. She knows my food issues, she made me breaded chicken, potatoes pan fried in butter, she made pizza for my hubby and kids and insisted i eat some. So of the foods i as am not supposed to eat, i had them all. No gluten, no dairy, no potatoes. Damn. It's not like i could say no. Ohh well. Now, i just need to get thru the hot flashes and all the food reactions and move on.

Lol! I AM a MIL and I can't imagine a single one of my 5 DIL's not giving me heck about trying to sabotage them. If they turned down my cooking a time or two you can bet I wouldn't spend the time and money doing it for them again. Maybe you can talk to her and let her know you're on a special food plan right now and she should only fix food for the others? If you behave like your food plan is serious business maybe she'll take you seriously? I hope it works out better for you next time...I had my MIL around for 30 years...if I had an issue with her I'd have wanted to get it fixed so I didn't have to deal with it forever. I hope you can work things out with her. :o)

I have the best MIL a girl could ask for. I am closer to her than my own mom. Normally I would have pushed the issue about what I can eat, or actually NOT eat. But she lost her hubby of 60 years about a month ago and this was the first time she cooked for us. So, this time i just went with it. She has been right by my side (actually the only person) through all my eating issues. She knows, but was trying hard to be a good cook/hostess. So, I just fasted yesterday and I am back on my schedule. Thankfully I don't have intestinal vaso vagil episodes and pass out anymore, so when I eat wrong, I can get over it faster then before. Thank you all. I'm glad to know that I am not alone with the issues of others with our eating restrictions!!!! :-)

You can always say no, a fact to which my ex wife will attest.....

I'm sorry to say this, but I have to agree withg Eddie. You COULD say "no". You could say this. "Mom (or whatever you call her), you know my food issues, and I'm afraid I just can't eat this. I'll have the carrots and I'll eat when I get home. I'm sorry kids. You know Mommy can't eat gluten, dairy or potatoes." Then you just munch on the veggies and starve and make them all feel like crap. The next time you go for dinner, watch and see that she makes you something you can eat! Otherwise she will never learn and you will keep caving in and being a victim. I'm sorry, but in-laws need the tough love, and today, so do you. :)

yes and really she might feel better that you told her and were open about it rather than keep it from her and make a larger issue of it in the end. time to put on your big girl panties my friend...

Next time take a bag lunch. She'll get the hint. Smile at her while you're eating and tell her you do love her.

I agree. Bring your own food. Tell her you love her but don't feel like being sick the next day. If she had allergies to shellfish would she eat shrimp if invited to dinner just to be polite?

Or a cookbook for the style of eating you are doing....

I try hard to cook things my SIL's like and avoid things I know they don't eat, now with the whole gang including kids there may be something one of the kids doesn't like or cannot eat there will be options.
