DairyKing's Journal, 15 February 2013

Weigh-in was great at 236.5 lbs. I knew I was going to meet my goal today, so I ate a can of Progresso Light Chicken & Noodle soup last night. Worked out for 40 minutes on the treadmill last night - burned more calories than I ate all day. No, fasting is not my preferred method of weight loss, but I'm OK with using it to recover from a day or two of binging. I haven't changed my stance on a diet of moderation. Patience is not my greatest virtue. I'm not even down to where I was last year, but I sure have learned a lot since then.

My goal in life is not to see how long I can live. My goal is to leave a legacy of character and integrity when it's time to give up the ghost. I am more concerned with enjoying the journey, rather than the destination. I hate it when people say, "We're going to live the good life when we retire." I have seen so many people retire in too bad health to do any of the things they planned for, and they put off enjoying life until they retired, and then it was too late. What kind of plan is that - to delay life until you don't have to work any more, like after 60 or 70 years? Yuck! I look around in the factory here, and I see people who have been here 30 or 40 years, that come to work with a scowl on their face. They say they hate working. Most of them are way overweight, and suffering from health issues, just doing their time until they don't have to come in anymore. The bible says, "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine." And I believe it. Attitude is everything.

Think about this as you're going down this path to a new lifestyle. Every pound you lose makes you feel better physically and emotionally. Instead of concentrating on how far you have to go, think about how far you've come. Even if you haven't lost much weight, if you've been on here for a while, you've learned something. As long as you're learning, you're developing coping mechanisms. The battleground is in the mind; life is what you make it. The alternative sucks. Start enjoying this journey that you are on. Everybody experiences turmoil at one time or another in their life, but if you never experienced difficulties, you would never develop character. Think about it. And I've met some real characters on here. :D Toodles!

So true, I couldn't agree with anyone anymore! At my house we say PMA (positive mental attitude), get busy living or get busy dying.

You are so right! I work with a group of people who are generally happy to come to work everyday, we all get along, and most days we laugh more than we complain. I think that helps my health, because I'm not stressed about work. I look at some of my family who are unhealthy and overweight, and that's why I'm here, to learn a healthier way to be able to live a full, happy, healthy life. Even if I have to work forever. :)

What you said.. yep. I feel such much frustration that when MH was full of life we didn't have the money to go do (although, we did, just always under the gun to get back to work to earn more money to go) and now that we have the time & money, he doesn't have the health. If only we had a crystal ball to see the future and a barcode on our wrists to check expiration dates, we could plan better. Otherwise, we just need to wing it, try to make today count, and try it again tomorrow. Thanks for the thoughts, DK.

I couldn't have written it any better. I want to lose weight so I can enjoy all that is around me. I don't know how long I'll live, but I want to be good and healthy for whom ever I hopefully meet:-)

Great journal. So true, the comment about some of the people in your workplace.... Life is too short to do / be somewhere, day in day out, that you hate, or even dislike. It's no good, looking back and regretting that you didn't do x or y. I regret I didn't loose weight earlier - however, I was happy and did stuff despite it. My observation of people has been.... There are two types of people the "woe is me, bad things always happen to me etc" they are negative about everything and Those that say " x has happened, but I am not going to worry about it, I am going to make the best of it". The positive people. :-)

so true. I know of so many who retire and die a few months later, my mother never reached retirement my dad only had a couple of years. Life is for living every precious second.Live well now and enjoy.

Love the second paragraph. We are probably two very different but I must tell you, I couldn't agree more. The joy is in the journey not the destination. Recent recents in my own life has focused this realization sharply. I wish I could say more but words fail me. Thank you.
