I have 5 children and my 8th grandchild was born 31/10/2012. My eldest step-grandchild is at uni and his brother is auditioning to study music at uni.
Since retiring I have put on a lot of weight. My work was very physical but my hobby is painting.I love walking but fractured my ankle and damaged my achilles tendon. I am picking up on the walking again and aim to walk the West Highland way this year. I want to lose weight to be more comfortable in an aeroplane seat and to improve my mobility

I am on omeprazole. The main effect on your diet will be that you can enjoy eating a lot of foods you had to avoid. You can now enjoy eating with no after effects. So be strict at keeping an honest record and you should be fine

hi
Smile Keep a food diary. Don't go the everything low fat. Better look at healthy options. Learn what is high fat.i.e. pork and lamb are high in fat, lean beef is o.k chicken is low, turkey even lower.Quorn pepperoni style slices are really good with pitta bread and pizza style tomato sauce.
most important is that you drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. Often thirst is mistaken for hunger so drink before you eat. Just don't over do it. you can drink too much. Most important don't deprive yourself just count it in to your cals.
Moderation and exercise. Exercise means move don't just sit there. You don't have to go to a gym i.e put on music and dance. good luck

Feeling AWFUL after exercising
I agree with the other posts Cardio does not really lose weight you need a balanced regime. Slow weight training will burn more. You must have a good well balanced diet. Cardio/aerobic are for stamina and for that you need high carbs. Research the web sites to help you get it right for you.

Jogging/running makes me sick.
on a normal healthy diet of 2000 cals you should have 230grams of carbs 45grams of protein 70grams fat(20grams of sats fat) you are on a high aerobic exercise regime so should be on a higher carb ratio for stamina like the top athletes they eat pasta bananas etc this is probably why you feel sick. your body will eat your muscle before fat. try slow weight lifting start with light weights (tins of beans, bottles of water)and slowly work your way up.use the machines in a gym if you can but stick to 6 to 8 reps done slowly. If you stick to aerobic increase your carbs bearing in mind aerobic will take longer to shift the weight.hope this helps.
