Happy Monday, Buddies!

I am feeling pretty upbeat today - which is amazing for a Monday!

As I have mentioned earlier, I am transitioning to a grain-free and dairy-free program which is Primal/Paleo as best as I can do.

I notice that sometimes I crap out about 75% through my workout...people suggest eating good carbs for extra energy. Makes sense, right?

Then I read an interesting article! It said we have trained our bodies to reply on carbs/sugar for energy for so long that we have to re-train our bodies to start burning fat again!

At the start of the workout, we burn off the glucose...and maybe never get to the fat burning phase. Or the change over to burning my body's fat store causes me a drop in my blood sugar temporarily.

The article went on to say eating more fat will help us burn fat - instead of just the sugar. Hmmmm...

Good Morning, and you are right it is a great day... I have to agree with the article. About an hour before work out I drink my low carb protien shake and then when I get home from the gym I snag a Tablespoon of pure peanut butter which I grind from peanuts... I went gluten free a few months ago and love the way I feel. I do know when I eat something with glutens in it I am sick for a few days now.. Great job....

The most effective way for losing weight is to reduce our calories. Exercise can only help off course but can't do much if we over indulge everyday. I read about the fat burning zone, lifting weights before doing cardio etc but really I never pay any attention to any of it and I still lose weight. Our bodies will do a good job on their own if we don't overeat.

Be Careful with the fat consumption. Ideally you should have 40% of your body weight in fat each day, but they are not all created equal.

That is exactly what I am doing HCB - retraining my body to lose fat and stop storing it! I don't know if the Fast Metabolism will work for me but it's worth trying if it will heal my metabolism. I am going to read your article. I am always interested in what some of the experts have to say on this. Eating whole foods and staying and cooking your meals, not eating out will heal most of us. I have been cooking my own meals for a while ... maybe I just eat too much? LMAO!!

It is a complicated area. Lots of hormonal reactions to balance. Eating more fat is great, but if you are exercising at high intensity, more than 3 days a week, you need to consume more carbs than is typical on a very low carb diet. That said, I start my day with bulletproof coffee....coffee blended with several kinds of fats, and I add some collagen powder. It carries me through the day with tons of energy, and I eat lunch more because it is time, and if I wait till I am hungry, it gets difficult to fit it in to the activities of the day. The best test of what is best, is what works for you. Keep messing around with things. Give each adjustment a little time for your body to adapt before you judge. I usually found that within 3 to 10 days I would see a big improvement if adding or removing something was gonna help. Good lucK!

Yes, YogiAmyG, I do understand not all fats are created equally~! I am eating avocado, olive oil and butter, nuts and almond butter while trying to keep the fat in my proteins down. I think for me 40% of my body weight in fat grams would be way too much. I ideally want my protein grams above 100, my fat grams at 50 or less, and my net carbs under 50-75 each day - just depends on how much fiber is present in the fruit and vegetables.

Interesting thoughts. I have been trying to add coconut oil into our diets.

There was a really informative documentary on bbc1 last night. It was called Horizon and tries to figure out which diet is best for you. Interesting watch. In the end they divided the 75 people into 3 groups : feasters, emtional eaters and grazers :)

Hello HCB! I am trying to get away from starches as much as I can - bread, rice, potatoes, pasta, sugar, etc. I had a turkey sandwich for lunch yesterday, just a turkey sandwich and nothing else, and it shot my blood sugar up to 152. Couldn't believe it! All of that other stuff shoots my blood sugar up, too. I think my diabetes is becoming more resistant and I am just going to have to make a choice - bread, or insulin. So I gotta do what I gotta do. Great to see you again - really appreciated all of your comments and letting me cry on your shoulder before!
