Socolova's Journal, 26 September 2014

Thought of the day: I have been considering moving my goal weight up a few pounds. Technically, to be the middle of "normal" weight per the stupid, archaic BMI scale I would have to weigh 140ish lbs. Now, when I was in high school I weighed 136 at my absolute lowest, I was a size 4-6 and disgusting-looking (not that I think people who are 6's are gross, it just didn't look good on me). I have crazy muscle tone and dense bones...so while 136 doesn't sound that small, believe me, I looked sickly. I don't really want to look like that again. So I'm thinking of calling it at 160. That's 8 more pounds. But then I think....only 8 more pounds, I don't think that's enough. I guess it really doesn't matter, when I think I look good, I can stop. It's just easier having a solid goal in mind. Hmmmmmmmmm....maybe 155...that'll get me to the Lose 15 by Halloween challenge. Ok, 155 it is.....and if I want to lose more then I will. I think if I change it though, my weight history re-starts?? Don't really want to do that...... Rambling...........................................

5 MORE HOURS TIL VACATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOHOO!!!!! I will miss my buddies though so I'll do my best to check in. I felt awful last time, there were just too many journals to read when we got back so I missed some of your journeys....I'll have to do better this time...and MAYBE not drink as much beer....haha, who am I kidding??? (about the beer part). I hope you all have an amazing weekend, whatever your plans are, and an easy week next week! MUAHZ!!!

A nutritional body calculation is much more than just a number on the scale. Someone who is 5'2 will look much different than someone who is 6'2 at the same weight of 150 pounds. even two people at 5'6 at the same weight can look different, not a lot different but different enough. that is why when trying to obtain a healthy body it does tie into aesthetics a bit. How you look plays a part, because you just may have lean body mass at a higher weight than what the BMI scale tells you you should. So measurements, Body fat calculations etc, are going to become increasingly more important than weight on a scale as you get closer to your goal.

True that! That's why I try to not follow that BMI calculation, it just seems silly...there can't be a "universal" way to tell people of all shapes and sizes that they fit into one mold. I have a friend, same height and size clothes, and I know for a fact she weighs 20 lbs less than me, she was part of our 24 Day Challenge in August. BUT I've always been in sports and have a higher muscle mass, etc....I think once I see a more defined muscle tone, I'm good.

DK's thought for the day: You will look your best when you are 10 to 20 pounds heavier than what you think your ideal weight is. Enjoy that vacation!

I think that once you get to your "ideal" weight, you'll know!

I've been having the same dilemma, trying to determine a final goal. Just keep losing till we get there, right?

Yeah, that's kinda what I'm thinking.....I have a "look" in mind, so I'll just keep at it til I get there and then maintain :)

DK, you're so funny! AND, Socolova, I'm getting sooo jealous over here, of all these Skinny Mini's stressing over how skinny they want to be! Just kidding, LOL, you've done a fantastic job & you definitely deserve to be proud & happy. I know I'm gonna get there too, sooner or later, & when I do we can both get up & do the "Happy Chicken Dance" together, LOL! It has to be a chicken dance, cuz I just LOVE chickens. I totally agree with what's been said, that you'll know when you're at the right weight for you. HUGE congrats, & blessings, & HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND! (((Skinny Hugz))) GLAMMER

Socolova, you can cut down on the beer, simply don't buy any. If you don't have you can't drink it. Last winter and spring I had very little, was bad this summer as beer tastes so good when working outside on my yard. Quit buying it again recently. I did have a few at the mud run yesterday but don't have any at home. Didn't buy it, raided my SIL's cooler, he doesn't care. I believe a healthy weight is when you are in good shape, lean, muscles toned, and feel good. I'm 132, my arbitrary goal was 135. I do not know where my weight will settle and not too concerned. I certainly am not going to gain the weight back so will keep tracking and keep to my woe. I'm not yet as fit as I should be and exercise is for life. Both to keep at it and live a longer active life. I won't know that number till the flab is gone.

Alcohol was a really tough one for me to kick. I was attending grad school to become a winemaker when my health took a turn for the worse and I had no choice but to give up alcohol and my 15 year dream of being a winemaker. I was heartbroken. Also, Twinnie, another way to look at this process is, instead of shooting for a number on the scale, you could try giving yourself an "activity goal". For me, it was training for a half-marathon. The decisions I currently make, both exercise and diet, are to support that goal and have very little to do with the scale anymore. Once I accomplish that goal, I'll choose another one, and so on, and so on. That way, you're always motivated by a goal that will positively contribute to your health and less inclined to do whatever it takes to reach a number on the scale. Because once you reach that magical number, your motivation to maintain a healthy lifestyle have a tendency to go out the window unless there is something else driving you to continue developing healthier habits.
