Current Weight

Performance: losing 0.8 lb a week

Goal Weight
145.0 lb
Still to go: 22.0 lb
Single mom of two wonderful grown men and three adorable grandsons. I am fortunate to have met a most special and wonderful man about 6 years ago. I was born and raised in Iowa and still live here, sure wish we had warmer winters. LOL. I have always struggled with my weight sometimes more than others. In the last 5 years I have gained 40lbs and I just can't seem to lose it. I wish I had ALL the dollars back I have spent on diets and gym memberships and home exercise dvd's and equipment, (at least the at home stuff I still have and can use) Now I have some health issues that would maybe resolve themselves if I could just lose this added weight, so Atkins here I am, carbs and sugars are a part of my health problem. I have gotten the dust off some of those home dvd's and started using them and some of the equipment too. 4 days down and a lifetime to go. I do not want a "diet" I want a new lifestyle! AMEN

Short term - 2 week Goals/Challenges

Goal 1 - Complete 2 week induction succcessfully
Goal 2 - Drink 1/2 my weight in water = 6 16oz bottles of water.
Goal 3 - 30 Minute Slim in 6 (Start it up)dvd home workout - 6 days/week
Goal 4 - 15 Minute Slim in 6 (Slim N Limber) dvd home workout - 6 days/week

New and looking for support buddies
Hi K,
I was like you as I faced fifty except I didn't find the right program for me before hitting the big 5 0. After a hypertension diagnosis and pre-diabetic I found a lifestyle change that made sense for me and is working.
Good Luck on your Fit and Fifty mission, welcome aboard!!!

HCG starvation diet or even death diet
I tried the HCG diet, half heartedly, so of course it did not work, It was the compunded hormone, over seen by my physican's assistant, who had recommeneded it to me. It actually decreased my menopausal symptoms because it makes your body think it's prego. I lost approx 10lb the first 10 days and I did lose inches. I was that desperate, self loathing person, trusting my medical professional. My cost was $250 for a 1 month supply of the drops. I purchased the second month supply, even though I knew I wasn't following the diet correctly, vowing that I would this time. I dropped the $250 bottle on my tiled kitchen floor and it broke. I waited, order some online, not the pharmacy compunded kind, and guess what it is still in my fridge, partially used.
I WISH my PA, (who by the way was taking this herself and had every female in her office on it also,) I WISH she had discussed with me other options, especially since she wanted me to drop weight rapidly to get my blood pressure and blood sugar under control and recmmended the choice I have now made with the Atkins Diet (lifestyle change).
Needless to say I have not been back to see her, and had my medical records sent to a new office.
Just thought I'd share my experience on this topic.

Exercise
True you don't have to exercise to lose weight, also true the more muscle you have the more fat you burn, your metabolizm works faster amd better. Don't like exercise, MOVE YOUR BODY, MAKE IT FUN, do activity that you DO LIKE. It's a start, I love to dance, I bought the Zumba DVD set and although I leanren this old lady's body deosn't move like that, I still have fun trying.
If I don't do mu workout first thing in the morning it doesn't happen, find the time and frequency that works best for you, a minimum of 3x/wk is what is recommended, start once a week for week and go to twice a week the next week, and so on.\
Good luck

Jillian Michaels dvds - results?
Hi all, I am a dvd home exerciser as well and one HUGE help I have found is giving myself permission to NOT keep up. So they kick our butts, we are not trainers and should not expect ourselves to keep up with them. only go for 30 minutes instead of 60, eventually we will be able to go for the 60, a little bit at a time. I use Debbie Siebers Slim in 6 and have had to give myseelf permission to do the lower impact, and alternative moves on some of the stuff. I'm 50 years old and can not expect to keep up with 20 and 30 somethings, besides some of those moves make my knees and ankles hurt.
So give yourselves a break, dust off the dvds and go for half the time to start. It is a beginning.
I also bought Jenny McCarthy's Wii workout, Your Shape, has a camera that projects your image on your tv screen so you get the moves down correctly, which is helpful and aggrivating at the same time. I also bought Jillian Michaels 2009 Wii bootcamp, I don't have a balance board and although it says you don't need one, there are sections of it that I cannot get the Mii to move. The running in between the other challenges wears my but out so I am not letting it bother me yet!

Good Luck All
