Still trying to enjoy Fatsecret as a long time member but not enjoying as much since the "carbs are evil craze" began and Keto aka Atkins came back. It makes it difficult for me to enjoy because I lost my mom to pancreatic cancer and dad to heart disease both at relatively young ages. I became vegetarian shortly after reading about Loma Linda, the China Study, etc. and have never looked back.

Now, I read this on the dangers of low carb:
https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2019/03/190306081652.htm

I believe in common sense eating with tons of whole foods with as little cancer causing compounds as possible. Low carb/high fat is just too scary to me...good luck and health to all on your weight loss journeys.

Carbs are great. They keep me on track and are just calories like the other macros. CICO is the basis of all diets. Enjoy your carbs.

The "low carb" group was 44.8% or under of daily intake. This is a terrible study to compare keto or low carb. This study basically studied the SAD.

I agree. Eating all the nutrition your body needs is important. I already have arterial blockage, and need every whole grain I can get! Plus, carbs are damn tasty.... 😁

Promote what you love rather than bash what you hate (or don't understand).

I treat FS similar to a family reunion. There's the people w/positive words of encouragement, there's the people who lecture you no matter what, there are the people I cannot stand for one reason or another, but it's easier to skip past their entries when they're not looking you in the eye. I use this to measure my own behavior and just try to treat others the way I want to be treated. I may not weigh in (pun intended) on any particular subject, but I will try and support others as best I can. I don't like bullying and I don't give a lot of credence to non-medical professionals. Apply those filters and I have a nice solid group of folks doing their best to support one another and our respective relationships with food. All good for the most part.

I think liv001 is right. Do what is good for you. I eat little to no red meat. Maybe a hamburger once a month. I am pretty much chicken, turkey and fish and maybe pork meat of some kind. I read what there was to read of the study. Thank you for posting it :)

Not trying to rain on anybody's parade, but everybody should get their blood works done on cholesterol.diabetes, cancer and high blood pressure checked on their annual medical exam. That's all folks.

while I generally agree different diets work for different people and their health needs, I wanna say this : when I wasn't getting enough carbs, I was tired all the time and couldn't do very much. friend told me to add complex carbs for brain powder considering I'm in grad school and running the equivalent of mental olympics. it's helped a lot to add certain carbs into my diet. so I definitely don't knock carbs in a healthy diet

Members like you are the reason I'm still using this platform. We're here to support each other on our respective journeys, and share what we've learned (the good, the BAD, and the ugly) along the way.

I read that same study - not only was it not low carb, I seriously doubt they measured any of the subjects ketones. More inaccurate fear mongering about LC / keto.

That said, everyone should eat the way they prefer.
