I wrote in a journal entry a couple days ago that I was determined to lose 10 pounds in November but only had a few days to lose the 2 or 3 pounds needed. Not sure what's going on, but I weighed in this morning at 169.8 making it 10 pounds with 2 days to go! My scale has been reading "lo" at first before I weigh myself, so I changed the batteries after weighing myself this morning just to be sure it's accurate and I got the same weight with new batteries! I had been thinking that my morning hot chocolate and 1/4 of a bagel might be the reason for the weight loss to be slowing so I decided to skip a day in between the hot chocolate and haven't had a bagel for a couple of days. Instead my breakfast has been 1/3 of an avocado chopped with a tablespoon or so of chopped almonds on top and a hard boiled egg and a glass of skim milk (without my much loved Ghiradelli hot cocoa mix). I know I will still have the bagel and hot chocolate otherwise I will likely not be able to keep on the dieting, but just not every day. Funny how a little change can make a big difference in just a couple of days. Picture of breakfast from a couple months ago. Not eating grapefruit currently.

That's great! I too love my bagels in the morning, and I'm trying not to have that "all or nothing" thing that gets me too. So yesterday I had a bagel, but it had been over a week so it was a cheat, but an ok and necessary cheat. I'm hoping all the small doable changes will help...and this morning was eggs, salad for lunch so def lo carb so far today. I'm gonna do my best to lo carb dinner too...wish me luck!!

Thanks Patty, it's been nice, 3 pounds in 3 days. Before that it was fractions a couple times a week. La4boys: thanks for the support and good luck with your low carb diet. I can't do low carb at this point because I can't stick to it for more than a couple days. Portion control is working for me. I was surprised to find that 1/4 of a bagel is enough. Once in awhile I'll have 1/2 bagel - I bought some that were smaller than the ones I usually eat. I am mindful of carbs, can't help it after reading all the posts on this site. I try not to go too much over 100 grams of carbs and often don't reach that.

FYI -- Instead of using the Ghirardelli's cocoa packets, try making cocoa yourself. Get yourself a really good dark cocoa powder -- my favorite is Valrhona. Use 2 heaping TBSPs in 12 oz of skim milk. Add in 1/4 tsp cinnamon and 1/2 tsp sugar and whisk well. This produces much lower calorie and carb cocoa, and the combination of the cinnamon and cocoa will lower your blood pressure and blood sugar instead of spiking it.

Thanks everyone for the support. I love avocado cut into chunks with the nuts on top. Just happened to do it accidently. I was just having a plate with the avocado and a hard boiled egg and 5 or 6 whole almonds. One day I didn't have any whole almonds so sprinkled chopped nuts on the avocado. It's really a tasty combo. It's just that after 2 or 3 months of that I needed a change so started with the 1/4 bagel instead.
