Walked with a walking group this morning. Last time I walked with them I just couldn't keep up, they walk fast! And they are all in their 60's and 70's. That's when I decided to walk everyday here in my neighborhood and to work on going up the hills. So today I was able to keep up for the most part, luckily there were a couple people who walked at my pace. I had to walk much faster than I am used to which is probably good for me. Otherwise, the walk itself is much easier than the hills I have been doing for the last couple months. I'll probably go again with them although because they walk so fast I don't enjoy it as much as my walks with my dog - but I know the faster pace is good for me. Plus, it's a nice group socially and they always go out for coffee after the walk.

Glad you were able to keep up. Perhaps in the near future you'll be leading that pack?

Thats a great accomplishment! I walked today only 30 min it was an experiment because of my spinal stenosis. I walked without any pain. I quit it 30 cause I wanted to prove the weight loss is helping the stenosis!

184: I doubt I'll ever lead the pack -those people like to walk fast! But maybe I'll be able to be closer to the front than the rear. There are usually 12-20 people. Patty: I started walking in September when the weather cooled down. I could only do about 20 minutes but every day I tried to go one driveway further in my neighborhood. Now I walk anywhere from 1 hour to 2 1/2 hours at a time! You probably don't want to over do it. I do that sometimes - go out for 60 minutes or more then realize I still have to walk back! 30 minutes is a great start!

Way to go! I wish our neighborhood had a walking group!

Jillzee00-the walking group meets in the next town. It's a 14 mile drive to get there. I could probably put a post on our neighborhood website to see if I can find buddies to walk around here. You should check out meetup.com to see if there is a walking group in your area. There are lots of different meetup groups everywhere. I belonged to 2 hiking groups before I gained too much weight to hike. There are groups for runners, photographers, some just social groups. It is a nice way to meet people near you who have similar interests.

Thank you. I'll have to go take a look. I wish I lived closer to my sister and my nephew. They are all marathon runners, hikers and exercise a lot. I don't want to go as far as they do, but I know I'd have someone to walk or hike with. LOL.

Actually, my trainer told me that speed is much less important than duration... in other words, aim to walk longer and farther, not faster.

Congrats, keep it going and you will be in the front of the pack. Your training paid off big time...
