Diana 1234's Journal, 23 March 2024

I am in a funk…I went to have my pacemaker device check to see why I’m getting so dizzy. Results were concerning. I’m pacing 92 % in top chambers and more concerning I’m pacing 98% in bottom chamber. ( what that means is that in one minute my heart is only beating 2xs on its own in lower chambers) Drs are very concerned about this because pacing too high in lower chambers causes heart damage. They adjusted it and my pacing would go down to 70% but within a minute it would return to original numbers. They tried several different adjustments and same results..they even FaceTimed with device reps to rectify issues but same results..End results were that I have to return in one month and they will have a rep from device company there to see what can be done. I also need to see my cardiologist to see if indeed there is heart damage beyond the electrical part. I’ll be doing lots of tests it seems…As I finished testing I felt very dizzy. Before I got up I asked technician if the testing would cause me to be so dizzy. She said nothing she did should cause dizziness. They took my blood pressure and it was 81/53. They gave me water and had me stand. She took bp again and it went up to 91/65. Better but still low.
I feel frustrated as I take care of my body, I eat good foods ( except I had cheese pizza yesterday..)and exercise regularly. I feel betrayed by my body, if that makes sense…Fitness is such a big part of my life. The Dr recommended that I not lift weights for a few days. I complied and just walked 2 miles everyday. I can return to bodypump on Monday. I still say, getting old sucks!💜

I hear you. Yes, that sounds concerning and something to certainly deal with. so glad you are getting all this done and have good professionals around you. Take it easy and try not to be too hard on yourself. We are doing what we can. Maybe we are not quite 25 but we can make the best of it.

💙 is there another form of gentle movement that might be ok right now? Pillates? Yoga? Maybe your body is just asking you to try something new.

Unity, Thanks for suggestion. I was thinking the same thing…I am considering doing Pilates but I have to be careful as putting my head below my heart can increase dizziness. I may try it next week. 💜

I feel so bad that you are going through all this. I know we have different health issues but try to follow a similar WOE. You are more successful and consistent in everything compared to me. My bp is always normal with occasional minimal highs or lows. Never anything like your low bp. The dizziness would really worry me I don't ever remember feeling dizzy, off balance at times. I would just take it easy until you figure things out. Your weight is fine and so are all your measurements. An inch or pound here and there doesn't matter much when your heart is the issue. Hope you have a nice, calm weekend!

Liv, I know what you are saying, I guess I’m just having a bit of a pity party…don’t want that…I will continue to find ways to adjust my workouts and my WOE. You are definitely an inspiration and I appreciate you! 💜💜💜

I have a pacemaker (ICD) and have had problems with my BPM too high. I started taking Dr. Berg Electrolytes Powder that I purchased on Amazon. It’s supposed to help with conductivity. It really helped me to exercise. I felt better during my fast also. It’s sugar and dextrose free. I’m 54 and have lost about 30lbs. Between intermittent fasting and Keto Diet. I feel so much better. Long shot but maybe you are drinking water but not enough electrolytes. Good luck.

Diana, that news is such a shock. Im thinking you were expecting they were going to be able to make some adjustments and it would all be fine again and to find out they are baffled is frightening. You have every right to take a beat and feel sorrow for yourself but then be the Diana that you are and take a deep breath and keep putting one foot in front of the other while this gets figured out. The very real mortality thoughts that accompany scary health news dont help and can be hard to push away. Be comforted in the fact that you are doing your part in giving your body good nutrition and exercise and try to live in the now. It’s scary. I and many others will be praying for a wonderful outcome next month with the pacemaker rep. Does anyone else in your family have cardio issues?

I’m so sorry Diana. It really is frustrating when you work this hard to have your body try to turn things upside down. Maybe look at this as a time to turn your main focus to the basics of that pacemaker correction. I’m hoping things get resolved quickly for you. 💙

Feeling like crap sucks but I think it is probably entirely different when you are doing all you can to be healthy. It is one thing to have poor physical health brought on by terrible choices but to be doing your best and having this seems so unfair. I'm sorry!

I pray for you often my friend. Please do not get frustrated at yourself, Look at Keith Richards, -80-and still going. Lol he has not lived a healthy lifestyle atleast in his early years. Best news, it sounds like you have the best medical team!!🙏🙏🙏🙏🐈‍⬛

Well what are grounds for it to be working more than it should? The less your heart does the work the more the machine is required to substitute. What would make your heart work less…. Wild shot maybe calories? Try going into maintenance or even slight surplus. Get your electrolytes, carbs, do you take Creatine? The 3 sources of energy is carbs, fats and Creatine. Best of luck to you Diana

Prayer just sent. 🙏🏼🩷

I’m gonna go with Super on this one. You don’t have to go overboard, but try some small adjustments in what you consume. Frustrating, I’m sure, but at least this is proactive monitoring. Maybe ask your dietician to look at whether you should adjust your macros. I’ll be praying for you.

I’m so sorry 😞. Yes, getting older has its “issues”! I pray you don’t have any heart damage. The dizziness is frustrating for you I’m sure because you try and take such good care of yourself. Hopefully, the rep can resolve the pace maker issue. Why will it take a whole month to get that consult?? Geez

Creatine might not be a bad idea like Supergainz1 suggested. Strengthens the muscles.

Superganz, they are unsure as to why the pacemaker is working as hard as it is. The type of issue I have generally happens to people who are 80+. Theirs is related to age and poor life choices, mine is more rare. It's thought to be a birth defect. They aren't even really sure. Because mostly older, inactive people have this type, there isn't a lot of data on how exercise and WoE effects it. When I first got it 10 years ago the research was pretty much non-existent. It's slightly better now. I will talk to Dr about creatine. I really appreciate the input.
