Ms Elizabeth's Journal, 24 January 2019

I think I may have finally snapped. I actually picked up the phone this morning and did something just for me. It's something small and not all that exciting but I made a doctors appointment to have a vein on my thigh treated. It's one of those things that I always put off because either I didn't think it was worth the money to treat or I thought I will deal with that when I'm skinny. I always had an excuse to not deal with it even though it seriously bugs me. It hurts when the kids bump it. I've had people definitely notice it was there. It got worse with each kid I had and well kids are done for me AND I've FINALLY realized that I'm worth it. If something bugs me I'm going to do something about it.

This morning I managed to sort of work out. I put in a workout tape but ran out of time before I could really finish it. I also discovered that I can to do pelvic raises nooo problem. Until they tell you to do it with only one leg. WTF was that??? Nope.. not possible. Not even close. Even the dog looked confused when I tried. New goal in life: Manage a pelvic raise on one leg. Maybe tonight I will attempt the workout again.

Other than this I've got nada. Apparently I'm getting better and have less of a desire to randomly cry on strangers. Next I think I will explore what else I can do for myself, attempt to write a book on something, and order a crate of that salad dressing they put on salads at the Japanese Habatichi places. I found a bottle in the store and now I think I have to eat salads at every meal. I mean really. How could I not???

That is great, take care of yourself❤💅💃 Sometimes we spend all our time taking care of the house, kids, husband that we forget about ourselves.😐

I'm so happy for you, DFM! These self-care choices are huge mental and emotional steps. I know what it takes, having been there. It's not easy, but you will build "muscle and momentum" with each step. We're with you!

Oh if you could see the pictures of the one leg pelvic lift going on in my head right now lol. Now I have to see if I can do one later! Good job making that appointment. I find that as a mom I take care of all the kids’ stuff and put mine off. I too am starting to make sure I get things taken care of in a timely manner. My treating myself is a hair trim and massage every 2 months. Wake up hurting the next day but the hair makes it worth it lol.

Self care takes so many forms. I am glad you are seeing the doctor. I guess one way to look at it is, if you would make sure the kids or the animals would attend to a medical need then you are also on the list to attend to it too. Think of it as setting an example to your children as to what they should do as adults.

Great to do something for you! It is strangely freeing when we do that, and quite honestly I don't think we realize how much a little thing can make a change in us. Ohhhh that dressing! Yes, I just had that last night. I am on a Pinterest quest to find a recipe for it!

As women, mothers, wives, we have a tendency to put our needs at the back of the list. I suppose that's why our kids love us forever. Now that I'm older and see how my husband has always made time for himself and his needs, I find that I have some built up resentment towards him. My kids are grown and cheering me on to take care of myself and I'm doing it little by little and feeling much better about myself. Long story short...YOU GO GIRL!!

A one legged pelvic lift... what could possibly be the point of that other than ..nope, can't think of a reason for it. I always thought that dressing was a watered down thousand island, is it not?

You are worth it - always. I have to be my biggest advocate - if I don't take care of me - no one else will. I have my alive day written on my bathroom mirror (today is #412) to remind me every day that I am valuable - I am worth fighting for - I want to be here. oh - and something else - stretch, and drink water...it will help those weird exercise things. I wish you all the best on your adventure.
