Nidoqueen's Journal, 03 July 2018

Okay guys, I need some support here. I'm totally bummed today and for the first time since I started this WOE (4 months ago tomorrow), I don't think I can do it for one more day.

I'm usually pretty upbeat and things have been going well in terms of my weight loss, but this morning just flipped my switch. Yesterday morning, following my complete morning routine (bathroom, teeth, shower, hair), I weighed in at 196.8. This morning after exactly the same routine, I weighed in at 198.4. Could someone please explain to me how this is even possible? I have had ONE cheat day in 4 months and that was back in May. Other than that, I have been very careful with everything I eat. Even when I have something off menu, I chart it. You can look at my food diary and see every single calorie that has entered my body since March 5 (hint: I'm HFA so details and routine are sort of my "thing"). I drink lots of water, but its about the same amount every day, at about the same times so I don't think water is the answer... not for 1.6 pounds. I'm just flabbergasted over it. I know it's just a number and it will probably rectify itself in a few days, but still... it just defies physics!

And then today, I was scanning my feed and my usual friends are posting pictures of themselves and their lovely food and all the food just look disgusting to me. I want cake. And pasta. And a cheeseburger on the side. Sigh...

I'm not giving up, but I'm not having a good day. Part of me wants to fast all day and "fix this" and the other part of me says "wtf, go get..." and then I can't even come up with what I would get if I threw caution to the wind.

And tomorrow is the Fourth of July...picnic with the family, Mom and brother doing the cooking. yay.

You guys are the best! I'm going with water weight... yes it is hotter here than previously and Sunday night was a total sweatfest as I kept up with 2 grandsons under 4 years old for 9 and a half hours. The A/C just couldn't keep up with Post-menopausal Radiator Grandma. I am doing Keto and I have been within my carb limitations every day so I know I'm not derailing myself...and yes, my scale is reliable (darn it... tried blaming that this morning). The last 3 doctor visits have shown my scale to be 1 lb less than his all three times, so it's consistent anyway. Thank you all for your support. This is what I LOVE about this site!

I weighed a pound more today after eating below RDI and exercising yesterday. I also ate salt yesterday... so I may be retaining water. I also did a bunch of exercise/movement on Sunday and am in pain today while I was fine yesterday (a little twinge here and there in the evening). I guess it's the way our body reacts to things but it can sure be discouraging.

"Weight" is one measure of our progress -- certainly not the only one, but the one freighted with the most emotional content. All our lives, we've been conditioned to believe that the number on the scale is a measure of our character, a judgment. That's a lie, but we are so willing to give that lie power over our behavior! The truth is that the number on the scale is an objective phenomenon, one point of information, one "fact" about the body to be observed and cataloged. When we put it in perspective, we deprive it of its power. The power belongs to us, not to the scale!

I stayed true and blue and did not loose any weight OK 2 oz what so ever, for 2 F-N months but my clothes were loose , so you can not always go by the scale, use tape measure, then finally I had a scale Victory..I prefer the non scale Victories !!!! Hang in there !!!

You are doing so well don’t give up. Only weigh once a week! Our bodies and hormones makes things crazy sometimes. Keep your eyes on the goal!

Sweetie, check your SODIUM intake, that will make you retain water and thus make your scale think you actually gained a pound. Keep your sodium intake to LESS THAN 1500 MG (read labels)

If you get so worried about the weight you shouldn't weight yourself everyday. Try with once a week because you will be seeing fluctuations and that will push that mood down BUT YOUR PROGRESS IS STILL THERE. Good luck don't worry

You could’ve ate something with a lot carbs by accident. Sleep also has to do with your weight in the mornings. Literally every little thing effect your weight in the morning. Just keep up the good work. I went from 276 down to 226 in 4 months. Lmk if you need any help

I know it's very discouraging to see the number go up instead of down but keep your eye on the bigger picture. You will only think bad of yourself if you give in to the thought of splurging because you feel defeated. You can do this.....LOOK at how much you have accomplished so far. Get your thoughts into something else, don't dwell on this ONE day. Best Wishes for you today....I have confidence in you!!!!

This is a life long journey and you have 4 months of progress to reflect that. I only weigh once a week to preserve my sanity and to avoid the daily fluctuations due to water, poop, the cosmos and what ever else goes on in my machine that effects my weight. You are stronger than you believe and you are worth the effort. I wish you all the best on your adventure.

Fluctuations happen. Don't fret, you've got this! You'll be rewarded in a few days when the scale decides to behave again. I weigh myself throughout the day, because I want to learn about the fluctuations my body go through and found that I gain up to 4 pounds during one day (water is heavy). I don't mind flutters any more. After a period of ups and downs, there will be a nice rewarding down down down. It's just what it does.

I can stay true to everything, deit, exercise, etc, but weight changes up and down daily like the temperature outdoors. I log my 'official' Monday morning weight but not the dailys. So I do talk to my scale every morning. Ticks me off, seems like Sundays and Tuesdays are ALWAYS lower than my official Monday weight. Oh the words my scale has learned, good thing it's fireproof.

I hope you realize that you are doing amazing! 38lbs in 4 months is rock star status. Weight can fluctuate from day to day. If you want a cheeseburger today; eat a cheeseburger. Tomorrow get back on track to want you know your body needs for nutrients and healthy weight loss.

Don’t quit! Take a day off if you want to then go back to your plan! You got this 👍 that weight is nothing and will come back off

Great comments and support above, we all have those scale WTF moments, it can be really discouraging...IF WE LET IT...Do find an old post here on FS " Why the scales can lie", and for the record 1.6 pounds is about 3 cups of water, I drink more than that in coffee almost every morning. Don't let the scale rule your life and happiness, it's just a tool to help us see overall trends in body composition (good & bad). Live life, stay the course, try to look at this as a long term commitment to your future self and not a sprint...slow and steady will get you there, take care!!

Just take it easy. Don’t beat yourself up and most definitely don’t starve yourself eating 100 calories in one day. That’s nuts!! You will lose it. Try exercising and don’t weigh yourself every minute of the day. Our mental health is important too

I just went through that too. I’ll be fine loosing daily and then like a few days ago my scale said I’m up 1 pound and I thought WHAT!!!! I tend to be a slave to my scale to weighing myself always and everyone here is right you look at your weekly trends and with me I go up and down daily but loose still from 2-2.2 pounds a week. It’s hard to see those increases. I like you stayed on track and couldn’t understand why I would gain over a pound in a day. I lost it a few days later so you will drop just keep going. Having a cheat day isn’t bad once in awhile. You need it to stay motivated!

Sounds like WATER WEIGHT to me, look at how much sodium you are eating even on days you do not cheat. I gained FOUR POUNDS from one sodium CHEAT day in 24 hours. That is 2 quarts of water. A pint of water weighs 1.1 pounds so there is NO WAY I could have gained REAL weight in one 24 hour period. DO NOT LET THIS DISCOURAGE YOU...keep the sodium down, at LEAST below 1500 which is what the American Heart Association recommends for everyone, and 1000 or less if you are an old folk and/or have high blood pressure. Hang in there and do not be discouraged. I am a FOOD-A-HOLIC and I know it so I take it one day at a time, and I know it will be a LIFE LONG challenge.

@Oxdrover, my sodium levels are actually on-target or a little low for the most part for a Ketogenic diet. I rarely ever allow myself to drop out of ketosis, therefore the rate at which sodium is extracted from the kidneys in my body is reduced. The liver needs that salt to create fuel from fat (since I'm not giving it much to work with in the way of carbs). The recommended intake for sodium on a keto diet is between 3000-5000mg ABOVE the normal 1200-1500 limit. To be honest, I am usually way below because I typically do not add table salt to my food.
