Hello all!

I'm a scientist by day, weather dependent knitter / potter / veg gardener by other times. Love and solar powered, yet nocturnal, it turns out. I have globetrotting ambitions yet am awfully domesticated. International with a range of countries of origin and destination. Currently based in Scotland.

Goals:

80 kg - never again over. It just doesn't suit me.
75 kg - pause here to consolidate. Fit into my favourite fabulous red corduroys.
72 kg - "normal" at BMI 25!
68 kg - steady! For life. Ace. Bring it on.

The scoop on Splenda?

Not sure if the links will work but I will give it a try.
Interesting article with Aspartame info: http://www.foodandhealing.com/articles/article-aspartame.htm

Seriously, look up Aspartame+research, you will find a multitude of hits.
Lots of good information to be had. Other interesting topics, Sucrolose (Splenda) which although appears to be a lesser evil still not good, confounding research for those interested... high fructose corn syrup (in sooo much of our commercially produced foods).
All of this being the foundation of why sugar (in small amounts) is the best bet. I would rather eat less than subject my body to the chemicals we have had added to so much of our diets since I was very young. The more I read and research the more angry it makes me.

Hi busymary,
thanks but unfortunately that's not what I was after - this text (however true it might be) contains no sources or citations of actual studies, and is written as a personal comment by someone who is promoting their book on whole-foods and is "the founder and CEO, of the Natural Gourmet Institute for Health and Culinary Arts" which I would consider makes them partial to a biased opinion.

Other critics of sweeteners I've spotted are a very powerful sugar lobby. I would like to encourage you to look up unbiased scientific work on this instead of choosing to go by random other people's opinions, even if you agree with them and would like to think they are right.

I'm not saying sweeteners are great - I don't know myself - but I'll post some links up when I get around to doing some research.

The scoop on Splenda?
Could you please include citations when you say you've done a lot of research? That would be great. Not random websites please - that's anecdotes and anyone could write it - studies would be good.
Thanks!
