43 year old father of two. I've always been "chubby", but it never bothered me much. Halloween '09, I caught pneumonia and cracked two ribs due to coughing. After a short stay in the hospital, I decided to take a bit more care with my health. I stopped smoking 11 months ago today (Apr. 2). A couple of doctor visits later, I realized that my self-specified "freakout weight" of 200# was so far in the rearview mirror, I was in trouble.
Thing was, I didn't want a diet. I didn't want to make changes that I hated and that wouldn't stick with me. So I decided on Baby Steps. Make small, lifestyle habit changes that would lead to permanent health benefits, including weight control.
I went from 230ish to 188. And I kept it off for a year.... then put most of it right back on. So here I am to make another go at it.
