I am in my mid-50s and would like to lose 40 to 50 pounds. This is the same 40 to 50 pounds I have been gaining and losing all my life. Now I'm starting to have some health problems, made worse by my weight. I really want to live an active lifestyle without pain. Losing weight and keeping it off is critical for me at this time in my life. I am on a low carb, high fiber, high protein diet of 1,500 calories or less per day. Since Jan 1st. I have averaged about 1400 calories a day and have lost 8 lbs. Glad to have a group of people with similar goals!

Terrapin12, thanks! I will check out both books. I would describe myself as optimistic, but then have to admit that it doesn't take much for me to be plagued with worry, often about things I can't control.

tecolote_ann, thanks for the links to the articles on breaking habits and changing behavior. It's been 82 days of eating healthy for me, and I still feel some small amount of 'fear' (for lack of a better word) that I will go back to old habits. It was nice to read that habits can take a long time to break and that it can vary for different people. I am enjoying how I eat now, but I miss junk food sometimes. I still avoid eating out, and worry about social situations where there are no healthy choices. I guess I'm still a work in progress...

How many calories are in 4 0z. of grilled or roasted pork?
Both your responses helped a lot. It's looks like I have been doing the right thing by using the higher number because I have been buying loin. In the future, I'm going to use tenderloin to keep the calories down. I didn't realize there could be such a big difference & I like tenderloin just as much. Thanks!
