I'm 56 years old, own my own business and am involved in a variety of professional organizations.

Have been fighting the good fight my entire life. Chubby child, chubby teen, chubby adult! Finally graduated from chubby to FAT. It was time to do something about it. Started a diet plan last year which has been fairly successful and recently stumbled upon FatSecret and thought the whole concept was exactly what I needed to keep up with the program.

I'm a type 2 diabetic with all the usual associations; high blood pressure, high cholesterol etc. I've recently been diagnosed with IBS and now have to cut out most of the foods I've been eating on my plan. Very frustrating, but I'll figure it out.

Would love to have a buddy or two or ten ...

I need help
The best advise I ever received was that you have to eat to lose weight! At least three small meals a day and two snacks and drink plenty of water.

Look for a balance of healthy foods. Fruits, vegetables, grains, lean meats, fish and poultry. I too am diabetic. My diabetes nutritionist recommended that I include plenty of fiber, omega-3, vitamin D and calcium in my diet. But not more than the daily recommended intake. All in all, it seems to have helped. I've also started adding a tsp. or two of 'Salba' seed to my food. It's an amazing little seed that packs a whollup of goodness, especially for diabetics.

I wish you well.

Wine!
Depends on your plan and what it allows. I allow myself a glass (or even two) of wine and the occasional martini. I keep within my calorie range for the day and so far I've been ok. I wouldn't make a habit of it. Don't forget that these are 'empty calories' and have no nutritional value. Been dieting for about 9 months and have lost a total of 36 pounds (33 before I joined 'fatsecret'Wink. My goal is to lose slowly (1-2 pounds a week). So far, with or without the 'beverage', I've managed to maintain this goal.

1200 Calories written in STONE , What's with that?
Lost of measuring! Daily Meal Plans included. Must follow EXACTLY for 2 weeks. After the second week you can start substituting food in the planned menu. Once you get going, it's pretty simple.

Fatchemist: Try Outsmart Diabetes 'Diabetes D'Tour Diet', put on line by Prevention Magazine. It's amazing. I went on last year and in the first two months I lost about 15 pounds. But that's not the good part. My diabetes oral meds were slightly reduced and my insulin (2 types - 3 times a day) was completely eliminated. I've been insulin free 6.5 months now. I've lost a total of 31 pounds. My blood sugars have normalized and my blood pressure is perfect. Still working on the cholesterol. I'm not promising the same for you, but it seems to be worth a try. And it's FREE! I will say, it was hard to keep track of the diet at first, but it doesn't take too long before you're doing everything automatically. If you do try it, let me know how it goes. Good Luck.
By the way, I came to 'fatsecret' a week ago and am still following a diet similar to D'Tour. Lost 3 lbs last week.
