I'm 59 years old (ugh!) and have been too heavy my entire life. When I was in college, I discovered a low carb diet but figured that meant I could eat only cream cheese and peanut butter and lose weight! OF COURSE, I gained weight and blamed the diet! Low fat diets and Jenny Craig worked for a while, but once I went back to normal food, the weight came right back on, with extra!
About 5-6 years ago, I discovered a book called Sugarbusters! that started me back on the restricted carb eating. When I plateaued on that, I decided to try Atkins, thinking I would ultimately hate it. But the pounds dropped off, and more than 40 pounds later, I've made it my way of life. When we go to visit grandchildren out of town, we eat at least three times what we should (of the wrong stuff!), so then I come home and have 10 extra pounds to get rid of again, but that is fairly easy, as long as I stick to the plan. Last summer I gained the 10 pounds and never was able to get rid of it until I got serious about my portions -- now that I've done that, it's working like a dream again!
