I have been chubby all my life. However, I became more overweight after having my two children. I have decided that I want to change that and become more fit and healthy. I am trying to figure out a way of eating that works for me. I an a lacto-vegetarian, so I cannot use the meat, fish and poultry that Atkins recommends. Nuts and beans are my main sources of protein, and I use a very limited amount of soy-based substitutes. I am aiming for at least one pound per week so that, hopefully, in a year's time I will drop under the 200 pound mark for the first time in 25 years or so.

Long Term Permannent success is Possible
Hi Spacey, thank you for taking the time to share your method in response to my earlier question. Evidently your approach worked for you. I too am gradually working out a way of eating that I can LIVE with.
Good grief! Is there a Keto/LCHF/IF monopoly on this site? Despite the many heated exchanges that I have witnessed on FatSecret, I certainly did not expect so much vitriol because someone dared to communicate a different approach to weight loss. There is a thin line between passion and outright aggression, and I am observing that some individuals have gone way past that line! That is bullying!

Any Vegetarians
I am vegetarian. Actually I am lacto-veg as I use some dairy, particularly cheese and yogurt, but no eggs. I have packed on more than 50 pounds since I became vegetarian about 20 years ago. I am not claiming that all the weight gain was because of being vegetarian. Some of it came with pregnancy, more came when I gave up my two dance nights per week for the joys of motherhood. (I don't know if any of you have ever been to a Trinidad 'fete', but imagine partying like a high-intensity aerobics session from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. ♫ 💃♪ ) Anyway, since I started watching my carbs, just a month now, I have lost 7 pounds. Also, I am now pre-diabetic so I definitely have to limit my carbs, and ensure that what I use contains a high percentage of resistant starch. For me this means lots and lots of above-ground vegetables and the good seeds such as fax and chia, moderate nuts, limited root stuff, and almost no grain.
