I am 42 years old and going through a world of change right now. I expect it to last for the next couple years. After losing a job I dearly loved last summer, I am working on opening my own company and, in the meantime, trying to find other other small jobs to keep the money coming in until I can get my project off the ground.

This change has also involved a move back to my hometown to be closer to my family. Not an easy move or an easy decision, since I was DEARLY connected in the town that I left.

And, to top all of this off, I decided that after a lifetime of being overweight, I was committed to taking off the weight. I am not the heaviest I've ever been (that was 325!!), but if I kept living the way that I was, I'd get there. There is so much out of control in my life right now, that I wanted to address something that I know I can take control of. So, in late January I decided that I was going to do it.

I agree with using whole foods. But I also know myself...sometimes I just need something really good....and although I love the pumpkin, it doesn't always do it for me. Instead of falling off that wagon, I use the jello or something like that. The site has some great ideas!!!

Induction is hard for this!!! I don't think you can have rhubarb or pumpkin on Induction, but I could be wrong.

I usually buy diet root beer or something like that. I don't have more than one a day, but it really helps me. I also will eat sugar free jello with whipped cream on it - that's one of my favs. I buy the whipping cream for my coffee. But if i can manage to skip it in the morning, I will whip a little up with some stevia (or sometimes I skip the "whipping" part and just eat it in its creamy, liquid, natural form) and eat that or put it on my jello. In extreme cravings I have bought the diet jello pudding and mixed it with half and half instead of milk. That is TOO GOOD. And, I must add, not completely legal on Induction either! Sugar free popsicles also do the trick for me.

Snacks for Atkins?
I am a HUGE snacker...and just about to start Induction (again) - so this is something I'm planning for already. Sometimes I just snack all day and don't really eat meals (actually I lose really well when I'm doing that).

Of course there are the usual suspects - veggies (just be sure to measure them!). One of my favorites is celery. I like it with dip or just use a little blue cheese or ranch dressing. As time goes on, I also like spreading cream cheese on my celery. I love tomatoes, so I can cut one up and eat it with a little celery salt. Love that! I also like cutting up some jimaca and throwing it in the oven with a little salt - a good sub for french fries! About any veggies with a little of your favorite dressing is a yummy snack.

I also keep boiled eggs around at all times, so I can grab one as a snack. Sometimes I chop it really coarsely, add a little mayo and mustard and it kinda tastes like potato salad. That's one of my favorites to do when i'm having a burger, by the way!!

I don't like pork rinds either and generally I think its hard to have meat as a snack. But I do keep summer sausage around - it has a few carbs, but its pretty low and it certainly does the trick. However, I try to make either tuna salad or chicken salad and always have that around, too. A few spoonfuls of one of these (and sometimes i dip my celery in my tuna salad, too!!) is a great snack.

I do use the Atkins bars once in awhile. But i don't have more than one a day. Actually, it usually ends up being about two or so a week.

I think the key is having stuff ready. When i'm prepared for snack time, I always do better. So having premade stuff is really important to me.
