Lets see....

I'm a 25 year old female.
I work for a pretty great digital agency in Brooklyn, NY.
I live with my boyfriend of 2 years and our 2 dogs in Greenpoint.
I'm a vegetarian.

I have struggled with my weight my whole life. At my heaviest I was 184 lbs as a high school student. I managed to lose about 40 lbs over the last 2 years of high school and the 1st year of college, but ever so slowly gained back 20 of those pounds. As I saw myself becoming that fat teenager again, I knew I had to do something about it before it was too late. So here I am! Lets see what can be done...

For now I am following my own diet which pretty much consists of monitoring my caloric intake, keeping carbs low, and protein high. And of course, a lot of different kinds of exercise. I am trying to make a lifestyle change so that even after I have met my goal, that weight wont sneak back up on me

Shin Splints.
To avoid this in the future you may want to make sure your running shoes havent had it. If there isnt enough padding its easy to get shin splints. I suggest going to somewhere like JackRabbit where they record your running pattern and give you shoes to correct your pronation. I just got some Brooks and I havent had any pain since. Feel better

Warrior Dash- 5K
Thanks Tapeekcm! I actually just returned from my 1st C25K run session. its awesome. I got through it with no problem. Its very encouraging to not leave the track feeling like a weak piece of crap. I was looking at the Tough Mudder race a few days ago when I was trying to decide which run to do. That one looks ridiculous! My hats off to you for making it through that!

Warrior Dash- 5K
@MimiMuffin Couch to 5k looks totally doable. I found a podcast with music that tells you when to walk and when to run. I'm going to try this tonight after work. Thanks to you both for the advice.

Warrior Dash- 5K
I decided I am going to try and run the Warrior Dash just because it seems like it will be fun. Problem is I'm terrible at running. I mean, truly awful! I need to not only be able to run a 5k by August 14th, I also have to be able to complete all of the obstacles.

So my question is:
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to become a better runner? My approach so far has been just trying to run 3 miles with out stopping, but there has to be a better way to build up to it. Does anyone have experience with this?

Starvation Mode
Tif and Kstub, My nutrition is definitely adequate. This is something I have always taken very seriously being vegetarian and regularly get checked out with my doctor. I have had an iron deficiency my entire life and do take supplements for that. as for B12, I am a vegetarian who often eats vegan...I'm not straight vegan so I get enough B12 from eggs, yogurt, etc....And I take vitamins every day, just in case. The only thing that ever fluctuates for me is my iron. So nutrients I'm not concerned about. And I wouldnt say at all that I am afraid of eating. I love food, My father is a retired chef, food has always been important to me. Maybe sometimes too important, lol. I feel like people are ignoring when I am saying that I am not starving myself. Again, I eat plenty, I eat when I'm hungry, and I eat until I'm full.

I think the key here will be eating higher calorie foods in my meals. Maybe full fat yogurt and cheese instead of reduced fat. things like that. I dont know. That way I will be eating the same amount of food and get the calorie boost.

And youre right Football, I'm no where near 5% body fat.
