I'm a 33 year old teacher and mother of two young children. I've been overweight my entire life--it's just interesting that at each stage, I've thought that I was as overweight as I could get and then I'd manage to surprise myself by reaching a new, higher weight (highest was 320). Now I'd kill to be what I was in high school even though that was still very overweight.

In any event, I've tried a million diets and yes, they all work when you follow them but as I'm sure everyone on this site knows, that's not always that easy to do. This time I'm the most motivated I've ever been--anytime I start to feel weak, I think of my children--I'm doing this for them and for the future of my family.

smaller clothing
I don't find it depressing to have a smaller size around but it doesn't motivate me either. As much as I love the results of fitting into smaller clothes, the vanity part of this journey never ultimately motivates me (although many times I wish it would). I do know that it's SOOO important to wear clothes that fit though because I feel a hundred times better about my progress in clothes that fit as opposed to clothes that I keep trying to wear even though they are too big. Nobody should live in baggy clothes. Smile

Your New Year's Resolution Can Succeed!
Liked your blog, Kate. I know people think it's silly to make resolutions, etc. I saw that someone posted that they were going to restart their healthy living plan on January 1st and so many people said, "start today--don't wait."...and while I agree that any day is fine, there is something magical about fresh starts and one that has been ingrained in our heads is that magical date of January 1. Thank goodness for fresh starts and clean slates...it's what rejuvenates us. My favorite tip of yours was to have someone remind you of your resolution in a few months. I started out 2010 really well...and lost a good deal of weight. Happily, I haven't gained any back but I was hoping I'd be further along than I am. Looking forward to 1.1.11 to refocus (again) to continue what I started a year ago.

everyone wants to tell you your wrong
It's funny...I'm not sure people are as concerned with telling you that you are wrong as they are about letting everyone know how right they are. Smile

Hmmm...did *I* just indirectly tell you that you're wrong about thinking people want to tell you you are wrong? Wink

People can be annoying...TRY to ignore them. Easier said than done...I know.

Why do you want to lose weight?
1) To live a long, healthy life for my children and family.
2) To be the mom/parent who actually is able to DO stuff with her kids instead of just watch them do stuff.
3) To set a good example so that they don't have to live the overweight life I've lived.

I have to tell you that while I do like looking better, looks NEVER motivate me. When I forget why I started out doing this and think I'm doing it for looks, I always get off track. When I remember that the reason I'm doing this is for my kids, I get right back on board.

I've been thinking of getting a Pedometer...
If you find one you love, let me know! I have had a few but I hate the inaccuracies. I never thought about the sock either...maybe I'll try that. I just know that my pedometer(s) always give me too much credit and it frustrates me!
